Maybe it has been discussed before, but I have been unable to find it.

In 2 weeks time I can pick up my new passport from Embassy in Bangkok.

I just did a border run to extend my multiple entry Non immigrant O permission to stay till 8th June. I like to apply now for a year retirement extension.

My question is: Do I have to wait to the last 30 days of my permission to stay or can I apply as soon as I have my new passport.

I am living in Bangkok and would go to Major Hollywood, Soi Suksawat 60.

Thank you

Along the same lines, if I go to Immigration for my retirement extension (within that last 45 days) with a new passport, do I have to get the stamps transferred before I can apply for the extension, or just bring both old and new passports?

You could do it in the same trip to immigration. But you would need both passports.

They would first do the stamp transfer and then the extension. Unless they did the copies you would need to make copies of the stamps in your new passport before they did the extension.

Thanks, that's very helpful.

If we can only get the extension of our OA retirement visa, in Thailand and within 45 days of expiry, then I have a problem.

We leave Thailand on 22 November and can only return in February, at most a few days before the Visa expires. (We have had our second entry on the first visa by entering before the 'enter before' date)

Help please.

The 45 days is the earliest you can do it. You can do it on the date your permit to stay ends as long as you have all the required documents ready.

You will be extending your permit to stay not a your visa.

Thank again Ubonjoe.

If we return with a week to spare we need a reentry permit, and only get a seven day stamp?

I must decide if it will not be easier to just get another Visa in South Africa - this time a multi-entry rather than 2 entry.

They will stamp you in for 7 days without a problem. I have seen reports of people arriving the day before and only got one day. They may ask if you really only want 7 days and offer you a visa exempt entry.

You already had a multiple entry OA visa it was not limited to only 2 entries. You could of left as many times as you wanted during the first year and gotten a one year entry every time on your return.

No I don't think you have to wait. When you get a non immigrant O visa you get a 3 months visa when you arrived, it means you have 3 months time to apply for your retirement visa. The reason you get 3 months is due to giving you time to open a bank account and deposit 800 000 Baht and then after 2 months you get a letter from bank and apply for your visa.

Once you get your retirement visa then to extend it you should go at the earliest one month before the expiry of the visa, if for any reason you must leave the country say 2 months or little more before the expiry of the visa then you should show them the copy of your flight ticket and explain that for some reason you must go now and you wish you apply for extension now. They accepted mine.

Once you arrive and you get 3 months visa, then if you have a income which is more than 65000 Baht a month, you can immediately get a letter from your embassy and show the letter to immigration and get your retirement visa. Then no need for 800 000 bank deposit.

Hope it helped you.

Could it please be explained why whenever I arrive in the country I have only ever been given a "permission to stay" period and not a "visa"

I similar vein I have been enjoying my retirement here in Thailand for a number of years. Please can it be explained why I do not have a "retirement visa"

Inaccurate posts which give false information are, at the least, misleading and will certainly cause confusion among those seeking genuine, informed and accurate detail.

Perhaps the Mods should consider , as a matter of policy , the routine removal of posts such as the one quoted here .
