Caretaker PM mum on proposed mediation to end political impasse

BANGKOK, March 18 - Caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra today declined to respond regarding whether the caretaker government would join the independent agency proposed mediation for a dialogue to resolve Thailand's political stalemate.

She said it would be pointless to say whether the caretaker government would or would not join the peace process given the announcement by protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban not to submit the names of 10 candidates for the mediation committee as proposed by the six constitutionally independent organisations.

Mr Suthep, PDRC secretary general, yesterday said he would not nominate 10 candidates for the mediation committee as it would be impossible to find neutral persons to fill the positions.

The agencies asked the government and the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) to each propose 10 candidates for the five-member mediation committee.

"If all factions follow His Majesty the King's remark on performing one's duty under the rule and with justice, problems in the country should be resolved," she said.

Asked whether the army could be the right agency to mediate the political impasse, Ms Yingluck said she would not rule it out and has never set any precondition in resolving the country's problems.

"We only have to set acceptable regulations before the dialogue and the regulations must be in accord with the law. The government is not authorised to act beyond impositions (specified) in the Constitution," she said.

"It's good to let a neutral person solve the problems but we need a joint practical resolution. I have repeatedly stressed that I don't want to hold on to power but it's my duty to preserve democracy," said the caretaker premier.

She said the caretaker Cabinet has replaced the emergency decree with the Internal Security Act to strengthen economic and investment confidence among Thai and foreign businessmen. (MCOT online news)

Doesn't seem to have bothered her brother concerning his and the governments actions concerning the orders he issued to his puppets over the last couple of years does it ?

Isnt that a precondition?

Anyway, Ive seen at least a dozen times in the media where she says she will only enter talks if Suthep calls off his protests first... now that is definitely a precondition.

So i call Yingluck a liar... barefaced liar even!

So, given that Suthep doesn't want to play the game, that gives her an excuse to avoid engaging in the only real way out of the current impasse...?!

Suthep is not the caretaker PM, so there's not a great deal that the constitutional court can take from him.

YL is the caretaker PM, and if she continues to demonstrate that she is not prepared to engage in any efforts aimed at sorting out the current mess, she will simply give them sufficient ammunition to have her removed from office.

Now, now, please give her a break. She was near mortally wounded while on tough duty upcountry. She shouldn't be stressed too much at the moment. She needs at least one or two months rest. Please wait with further attacks till then.

All tje more reason for the PM to take the high road! Suthep resists, Yingluk agressively pursues negotiations, Yingluk wins!! Sometimes i wonder who gives Yingluk advice. You should be on TV every night taking strong positions on reforms & negotiations. Put Suthep in his box!!

What ever games they play sooner or later it has to go to a general election which the reds will win hands down so why not get on with it now.Clear the streets ensure people can get to polling booths and let them all vote. Its the only way forward like it or not.

I am sure the multi millionaires is not to stressed out, nor Suthep living on his millions made form corrupt land deals in Phuket.

No matter who gets the most votes the corrupt ba***rd always wins.

Dont be so sure, the reds are losing support left, right and center... they will be lucky to scrape enough votes to be a viable 'second' party in a collation. The only way they will regain power is if they take it by force...

Hence Jutaporn and Ko Tee are being wheeled out...

The double talk is amusing. It is kind of like saying "I am a very peaceful person, but if you say I am not I will attack you"

Or my favorite. "We are having a "beat the war drum" meeting that has nothing to do with actual war, but to restore peace in Thailand."

Apologies rubl, one slight correction:

She was near mortally wounded while on tough duty electioneering upcountry.

Maybe, just maybe Thaskin is a bit smarter than you

and he knows this time with all the rice problems this is a good chance they may not win

so he is not prepared to take the risk

If this is sarcasm I'll pass otherwise why? She deserves all she gets and hopefully will get in prison!

Off topic maybe, but is it juts me or has she gained a bit of weight? Look at her face. Is she trying to emulate Yaopawa?

You people know how serious sprained ankles are if you watch Thai soap operas. The women with sprained ankles are almost incapacitated and only able to scream in pain...

Is that Sunisa(the other one that was near mortally wounded by a scratch to her arm a few weeks ago)in the background?

I totally agree with you. the red shirts are the only ones she has not alienated.

I had to laugh at this part of her talk.

Asked whether the army could be the right agency to mediate the political impasse, Ms Yingluck said she would not rule it out and has never set any precondition in resolving the country's problems.

No she hasn't set any precautions in ruling out any kind of peace attempt. Except for the one. She refuses to step down. Except her as your lord and master and she will talk to you.

The country doesn't count just making sure that Thaksin get's his way is her only concern.

If you get dropped in the shit, big style, isn't the first person you call mummy?

Unless, of course, she is no longer on the scene; then you call daddy.

Edit: also, those who are under pressure or depressed or believe themselves to be failing, as a result of guilt, usually resort to: 1) alcohol, 2) drugs, or 3) over eating.

Judging by the photo in the OP, some fat slag has been over-indulging in the latter: number 3. I wonder if that confirms a form of guilt?

Says the woman who mismanaged the rice scam, rammed through a get out of jail free bill through parliament at 4:00 am and only on rare occasion bothered to visit parliament. For her to suggest that others aren't up to her standards makes me sick.

Do you have ANY proof that Suthep made millions from corruption?

AFAIR Suthep has not been convicted or sent to jail yet.

Thaksin, however WAS found guilty and rather than appeal or go to jail he fled Thailand and has NEVER returned despite being able to do so at any time. The fact that he has still more charges waiting for him speaks volumes.

Suthep has many charges waiting for him also but for some strange reason he remains in Thailand not trying to flee from justice.

Never a truer word spoken. Mind you, I wonder if she really knew what she was saying here.

She might understand or might not. Doesn't really matter because big brother and all the gang have no intentions of abiding by the rules, laws and justice.

Just family business as usual.

The actress just keeps performing very well.
