100 pick-ups and 6 trucks.
Looks like the numbers at Lumpini are about to triple.

Only an idiot would discount the ire of the unpaid farmers. There's well over a million of them.

And the overwhelming majority of them are Red to the core.

No matter how bad you think Thaksin and his hot little sis are, the farmers know the other side are a hell of a lot worse.

They're smarter than you guys give them credit for and that's why the Democrats are boycotting again.

Your struggling, why nor call it a day?

In my humble observation it look's like the elite class is once again fooling the poor farmer's and citizens of Thailand and trying to install and unelected board of directer's to rule Thailand just like communist china and that to is a farce , central banker's are behind most of the world's conflict's , its the one world order , Zionist banker's rule the day and profit from all war's and small conflict's and government coup's I would urge the thai people to study the history of coup's in south America . democratically elected government's are elected by the majority of the people and the minority should never be allowed to manipulate or overthrow a government with or with out outside help . wake up Thailand before its to late .

Zionists? I blame the illuminati, or Catholics (theres a lot of them in Chiangmai). How about the Rosacrucians or the Masons? Now the CIA, that's different! They have had more affect on South Americal politics than any Zionist bankers ever have had..

Well to make a complete post why not also blame abba or perhaps the Jackson 5.

Kind of explains a lot.

A man has two heads and some times he just thinks with the lower one.

How dare these ignorant farmers challenge the authority of their betters, the wealthy Yingluck, Thaksin, and Jatuporn? They should just shut up and let Thaksin the Great make the decisions for them.

For the information of any Red Shirt sympathizers out there, I am being sarcastic!

Good. Get rid of farm subsidy once and for all.

What a waste of Bangkokian Tax Payer money.

It is obvious that Bangkok people have been paying too much for rice, onion, garlic, palm oil, sugar, etc. It is cheaper to buy Chinese import.

...but hazardous to your health to eat it.

People get the government they deserve. Stop voting for your wallet and change might happen. Farmers need to start co operatives and cut out the (chinese origin) middle men. THAT ll change their plight.

This is what Thaksin said 3 years ago:

“Maybe, because I still have fond memories of living in a rural area, and I remember that when I went to school, I rode on the back of the motorcycle of my father and watched the rice fields along the way — I can still remember that scene. So I have a very fond memory, and maybe that’s one reason I do feel sympathy for the rural people when they are so poor and they have so little chances. How can we give them opportunities, give them some hopes? That is my passion.”

Today we know better. What Thaksin was really saying is: "Give me 900,000,000,000 THB and I will give 18% to the poor farmers and the rest is for the storage, trading, and handling companies. And just by pure coincidence, I control most of them".

Even that is better than the previous Goverments (including the Democrates) who said the same thing only without the "18%" to the poor... It was that "18%" that made him so popular with the poor and made him unbeatable in most elections...

And now farmers get a reality check as price of rice is going lower and lower so the income will decrease. Ignorance is expensive and now farmers will be financially punished. They knew that their produce was not worth the money government offered. Very interesting story. Let's hope they have learned this lesson well.

Someone who writes things like that obviously has very little understanding of what went on.

All of the farmers had been paid for at least one crop and in some cases up to four crops in the time the scheme was in operation so had every reason to trust that they would be paid again.

It was not their business how the scheme was administered and not their place to keep checks on the Govt.

They were told that their crop would be bought from them at certain prices, so go for it and produce the crops, which they did.

It was not their fault that the scheme was unsustainable and that mountains of unsold rice built up.

Don't know if you have ever been in a rice farming area and seen how many of the farmers live, if you had you would certainly not blame them for wanting to improve their lot ,as this scheme promised to do.

They are in no way to blame for the predicament they find themselves in now, no matter how much you and others try to twist things to call it selling their vote.

Had those in the PT Govt done as they should and made budget provisions to pay the debts to the farmers before dissolving the house then the farmers would not be protesting now, there would be no need for the desperate efforts to raise loans, nor to be selling rice at below market price as is reported elsewhere today.

The Govt selling stockpile rice is now in direct completion with the farmers who have no choice but to sell the crop they are harvesting now for whatever price they can get.

It has been reported that some farmers have only been offered 3,000 b per ton and the price is certainly down to 5,000 b, lower the than cost of production .

Then there are the debts many have been forced to take on through non payment.

If you have never been on the bones of your bum yourself and can find no empathy with the farmers at least try a little sympathy.

Very well written. There was no plan to set aside money for these farmers, and they need to be paid. A country that lets its farmers become insolvent it just looking for trouble. Keep your farmers happy everyday, because they are your lifeline.

May I suggest that you look how China is doing (10% average growth on a consistent basis) with poverty drastically reduced and compare this to (supposedly) democratic Thailand - now who has done better?

Thailand clearly isn't mature enough for democracy at the moment - benign dictatorship would be a better economic model to adopt!!

Yeah, China is just awesome!

More than 1.6 billion people—23 percent of the world’s population—have no say in how they are governed and face severe consequences if they try to exercise their most basic rights, such as expressing their views, assembling peacefully, and organizing independently of the state. Citizens who dare to assert their rights in these repressive countries typically suffer harassment and imprisonment, and often are subjected to physical or psychological abuse. In these countries, state control over public life is pervasive, and individuals have little if any recourse to justice for crimes the state commits against them.

In this year’s Worst of the Worst report, nine countries were identified by Freedom House as being the world’s worst human rights abusers in calendar year 2011:Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Two disputed territories, Tibet and Western Sahara, were also in this category. All of these countries and territories received Freedom in the World’s lowest ratings: 7 for political rights and 7 for civil liberties (based on a 1 to 7 scale, with 1 representing the most free and 7 the least free). Within these entities, political opposition is banned, criticism of the government is met with retribution, and independent organizations are suppressed.

Seven other countries fall just short of the bottom of Freedom House’s ratings: Belarus, Burma, Chad, China, Cuba, Laos, and Libya. The territory of South Ossetiaalso is part of this group. All eight, which received ratings of 7 for political rights and 6 for civil liberties, offer very limited scope for independent discussion. They severely suppress opposition political activity, impede independent organizations, and censor or punish criticism of the state.

I Can't imagine why the Thais aren't queuing up to have a go at crap like this.

Those pesky fake farmers at it again ? whistling.gif.pagespeed.ce.FVjgnKnWS1.pn alt=whistling.gif width=19 height=18>

Of course.

Some more 'agenda laundering" by the PAD-Dem's, trying to project their agenda via groups that pretend to be unrelated.

Very careful not to show the linkages to, and instigation from the PAD-Dems, coup-mongers and all their anti-democratic friends.

I see they have all been issued affinity coloured T-shirts,

Anyway, we have seen it all before, in one form or another. One of the primary ones being elements of the Medical establishment.

So, once again I ask you Fryslan Boppe. You dare to say here on Thai Visa that this current rice scheme is a successful program, free of corruption and beneficial to both the farmers and the country as a whole?

I have asked you this already several times now, but you dont seem to have the courage to actually come out make this statement (or do you secretly think that the rice scheme is maybe not so good after all).

look sir... Fresian cow or boppe or whatever is really khun THAKSIN, must be. Or he really is a fresian cow.. Full of shi.typo...

As to how the farmers would vote in the next general election, I would think it would depend on what they were promised with the caveat that they will be cautious of promises made by a Thaksin party.

A fair proportion of the farmers are in a quite desperate situation and would be inclined to go along with anyone who promises to get them out of debt and back in business.

In the previous election the Dems campaigned on continuing the same price support system for farmers which had worked well supporting in particular the smaller farmers while not breaking the bank or accumulating rice stockpiles. The country remained the worlds top rice exporter and had a reputation for quality.

The Thaksin machine came along with the rice pledging scheme which promised to pay the farmers almost double for their product, an offer that most found irresistable and the Dems were not silly enough to attempt to trump that for they had people in their ranks who understood business and finance and could see exactly where such a scheme would lead.

As far as I know PT had no manifesto for the 2 Feb election for they knew they had no real opposition as the small parties could all be bought therefor no need to make promises.

However an election with all parties taking part would be a different story, the first thing they would all have to do would be to promise to pay off the farmers for what they were still owed under the scheme, but where to from there ?

Well it is very obvious that Thaksin wants power at all costs regardless of what damage it does to the country so I would expect more extravagant promises, but will there be the trust there that they will keep those promises ?

It should be obvious to most why a Thaksin party must stay in power so no need to go into that.

The Dems however, who will be the only real opposition, will want to get into a position where they can open the books and show the full extent of the damage but wont want to be making unsustainable promises that can only make things worse.

The wild (very wild by the sound of it) card are the reds with their army they are talking of getting together and their schools to "educate" people to their version of democracy. What happens with that lot will have a huge effect on the country and the possibility of elections.

Seems like everybody in Thailand is behaving like lemmings. The central figures in this unholy mess have the worst case of athletes mouth, tourists and investors ate running for the hills, the economy is slowly collapsing and while all this goes on the military and police are too terrified to do anything. Is there a solution? For the moment absolutely not and all this doesn't bode well for the future as a huge percentage of people are totally over leveraged. It's a total mess created by greed; the only people who haven't been on the make are the very poor..There's a choice to be made for all Thai people -are they willing to make huge sacrifices both morally and financially. I doubt it.

Actually the majority of tax in Thailand is not collected from personal income tax but from things that apply nationally like VAT or import tax and to a lesser degree corporations tax and other associated duties. Income tax receipts are tiny compared to those.

Had they been paid an above market price for their rice from a scheme that could wreck the economy, they would be quite happy. They are concerned only for themselves, not the Thai Nation. Don't paint them as heroes.

These people are farmers not economists, bankers or politicians. They were offered a price for their product.

The farmers accepted the offer. It was not the duty of the farmers to calculate what the effect of the offer was going to have.

The farmers have not been paid what was offered despite delivering the goods.

It is right the farmers now demand, in any possible legal manner, that what is owed is paid !

Thanks to The Pool for standing up for the farmers who are the very people that are receiving and will receive the most damage and hardship.

These people make up over 50% of the Thai population. Yes, over 50% of Thailand's population are either farmers and/or deal directly and indirectly with the farming industry.

THEY are THAILAND! To hear some of you Farangs talking like LemonJelly is just pathetic and shows the insensitivity so many of you Farang blowhards have for Thais.

One more thing to all the BlowHard Farangs...why do you keep using the word Democracy?

Why does Yingluck and the Redshirts keep using the word Democracy?

One: This is completely 110% about criminal acts against the Thai people and severe and costly criminal acts.

Two: There never has been a democracy here in the first place....never!

If a Thai person votes the way thier Komnan (Village head) tells them as he was told by the head of their district who was told by their governor....fine!

Thai people have never had a problem with that.

In fact Thais are so used to corruption that as long as all Thais are in for the ride....all is well!

I am not condoning corruption but just telling it like it is.

When the corrupt officials are so greedy and corrupt that they FORGET to feed the mouths that voted for them....you have a big problem in Thailand.

These poor farmers and the entire rice industry has been destroyed by these hired puppets of the megalomaniac in Dubai Thaksin who has plundered this country and plundering is a most serious crime.

No matter what happens in the short term....the farmers and poor people of Thailand are screwed.

They are going to have to be the ones that pay for the corruption and crimes of the Yingluck-Thaksin regime.

These Red Shirt leaders don't give a <deleted> about farmers or even Thailand.

They are all being paid and are being offered incredible amounts of money to bring DADDY back home.

They are greedy, dishonest and will become very violent in order to get their money from DADDY.

I've got news for you Red Shirt guys.

You are never going to get those huge financial bonuses!

And your DADDY is NEVER coming home!

Thanks again to The Pool for sticking up for the underprivileged.

The Boz

Boz,

You're probably almost completely wrong with everything you've said.

But 5 points for trying anyway

Congrats

Question for Honest Quiet Bob:

1. Would you like to honestly tell us boys and girls just how great Thaksin and Yingluck have been or the people of Thailand?

2. Is your nick name HonestQuietBob because every time you speak people tell you to shut the F%k up?
