I have just come across this old topic as I am experiencing speed and disconnect problems with my AIS 3G Pocket 21.6Mbps which I purchased 3 months ago for use with my laptop at home as there is no cable system here in the outback of Surin province. My query is, "Can I purchase another network's sim card and use it with this device." local outlets give me a blank look when I ask them the same.

Yes...after you unlock it.

Look here and here

Though only on the TRUE and DTAC's 2100MHz networks, as the modem utilises only 900MHz & 2100MHz.

TRUE and DTAC are on 850MHz & 2100MHz.

In addition, you can look into AIS AirNet and FibreNet products.

Check as to whether you are in the AirNet/Super WiFi area here

You can also enquire about FibreNet

Beware of changing your "main package" with post-paid services.

I was using the 599baht; 300 free call-minutes and 1.5Gb internet option, but since I don't call that much and mostly use wifi due to the crappy 3G I decided to scale down to:

299baht: 100 free call minutes and 500Mb internet.
I did this online using the AIS Eservice-website and I applied for the change on the 19th (my bill-cycle runs from the 12th until the 11th of every month)

Yesterday I got my monthly bill:

the 599baht package was fully charged

the 299baht package was partly charged, starting from the 19 th

I called 60 minutes more than the new package allows and was charged according to the new package, rather than to use the old package.

I contacted 1175 (AIS Call Center) and asked what was going on:

The friendly lady explained the AIS policy that in case of changes during the bill-cycle the old package will be charged fully and the new package will be charged from the date of its start.

I asked the lady if this was fair, since there is nothing on their website warning for this policy and she answered:

"Maybe it's not fair, but it's the company's policy, however, I will take care of the charges of the new package; they will be deducted from your next bill and i advise you next time: If you would like to change your package, call 1175 and let the chance be effective from the new billing-cycle".
