Mass Police Presence In Mabprachan

As I drove past the Fishermen's Rest from Pong, at about 1.40 p.m. today, I noticed the outside tables were full of motorcycle cops. This was quite odd as the place doesn't open in the day time.

I stopped at the Terrace and had a quick bite to eat. Two cops on one bike, stopped, parked, sat at the bar and had some glasses of water, and wrote busily in their notebooks. Then they left, going back towards Khun John's. I finished my meal, thought better about going to Black pearl, and followed in the same direction. I found the two cops parked just down the road, as if waiting to stop traffic.

I passed Khun Johns and came across a whole load of people at the side of the road, and yet more cops milling around.

I proceeded round the bend and coming towards me was a long convoy of police vehicles, about 10 in number, with lights a-flashing. It was such a ramshackle collection of vehicles - rusty old saloons, battered picks ups, etc., all with police sinsignia - that it made me chuckle. Thailand's finest in all their pathetic, motorised junk.

Presumably something big was going down on "Driving Street" today. I just kept my head down and kept going in the other direction.

Anyone know what it was all about? :o

Story is that they cought one of the guys who shot and robbed Steve Parkinson around the lake a couple of weeks ago.

If you can believe the rumours a re-enactment of the crime took place...

Sounds plausible.

They must have had half of the Pattay force out there - good day for crimnals elsewhere.

Oh I forgot, they're patrolling from the air now :o

It seems mobi that they have now arrested three of the four members of this gang for the shooting and it appears that they have also admitted to a number of other armed holdups in the area.

That would be good news. I drive around this area at night from time to time and after those incidents, I was not feeling sabai mak anymore.

Let's hope this gang goes to jail all together.

Yes, I certainly wouldn't feel safe driving around there late at night on a bike. Normally you never see a cop from one day to the next. A few weeks ago we had a whole bunch of kids on bikes turn a field near my house into an impromptu speedway track. It was right next to the village, but no one dared go near them to complain. As dusk fell, they all zoomed off.

There's been a number of Thais attacked and robbed around the lake in recent months, but it doesn't hit the news because they are Thais.

Maybe the successful arrest of these hoodlums will send out a message? :o

Oh....I do not ride a bike there at night, just a car with lights full beam :-)

The only cop I see, is in the morning around the Wat, wonder what he is doing there on his bike, maybe have a break...

Haven't done that yet.

More likely, she organised the police convoy to persuade me to put it in her name. :o
