Several thousands of anti-government demonstrators led by People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban marched out of Lumpini Park at 9.30 a.m. today along Bangkok streets to inform and invite Bangkok people of its major rally on Saturday.

They are marching along Rama IV road to Hua Lampong railway station, turning left to Surawong road and make another left turn along Mahesak road before returning to Lumpini in a total distance of 5.8 kilometres.

The march is reported to be protected by 2,000 PDRC security guards along the route to provide security. Police have also been asked to help facilitate traffic flow.

Suthep was warmly greeted and cheered again by residents along the roads he walked past.

Where are the Pictures of the 2000 guards and the 50 protesters.. where are those with the wheelchairs gone..?? An other joke of Mr. Suthep costs the Thai's hundreds of thousands of Baht... I guess PBS is joking with such reports.. wants to bring in some " funny stories"..

The PDRC and UDD events could not be more contrasting :

PDRC events : a call for reform before an election

a call for the strengthening of the independent agencies

a call for accountability and addressing of corruption

UDD events : a call for the dismantling of the independent agencies

a call for the impeachment of judges on the Constitutional Court and the appointment of new judges

a call for secession

a call for ten million Thais to arm themselves with guns

The answer is easy... "are the independent agencies independent..??"

depending on your answer (or how you get it to be from your Point of view) you know who is right..

Would corruption accountability also include judiciary corruption and also Suterp's corruption? Didn't see your PDRC events to call for disarming of their own men.

Can you proof this?

3000 armed guards and 30 protesters?

That's what happens when you only watch Red TV Brucie.. Your brain gets addled & you make totally ridiculous posts. Time you watched Blue SKY TV & broadened your narrow little mind.

"Not enough food for everyone."

I bet that news raised some heart beats in the crowd.

Yeah!! Try that in the north & say, "Mr Thaksin says please turn up but sorry, no-one will paid this time." See how that (further) affects the red rally numbers.

Only an idiot believes that people are being paid to protest all the time, people are like sheep, that's why these crowds are referred as sheeple they're curious, and they'll follow one another without a clue as to what they're following, you should know this, it's been happening in Bangkok for 4 months :D.

Sadam Hussain, and Mummar Ghaddafi always used to get massive crowds turn up, but as soon as they lost their power, the crowds turned against them, even the great Ceasar himself was stabbed to death by one of his close aides.. and wasn't expecting that either.

Popularity isn't measured by giving out free meals, and holding open air free concerts, and promising the world "these are the final days/push/whatever"

Popularity is measured when your fan base grows, and not dwindles.

Participants of the procession were advised to bring their own lunches and drinking water as the PDRC kitchen might not be able to provide enough food for everyone, said Mr Suthep.

"And because I spent the donations on other things."

But anyway, could this be the famous last push, or another penultimate shove. Maybe just a weary nudge.

Push #1, #2. #3, #4, etc. etc. etc. Don't worry team, this is the very last push before we do the next push. Boy am I getting push tired.

Just like Caesar's lesson, the fugitive Thaksin should take special care as the promise of free laptops, purchase of rice at well above market price, big refunds on for first car buyers etc. doesn't ensure long term popularity and it seems his fan base is declining rapidly.

Please excuse me, but the anti-government protests have nothing to do with a popularity contest. It's about wanting reforms which give a good guarantee that 'respect my vote' works even AFTER it has been counted, with even more independent watch dog organisations, with better legal protection of common people and for most applicable to all.

Surely you jest? And what about the common people who wanted to vote, but were denied that basic right to do so! ? There was no such thing as respect my vote on the day in question..

I'm all for reforms, but it's not about me, or you, or even half of the TVF members, as they have no say, it's about what the Thai people want, and THEY must be the ones to say whether they want reforms or not, not a very small percentage of the electorate, put it to the people, offer a Referendum a simple Yes or NO vote.

Just title the ballot paper " Reforms before Elections" , and another called "People Council" with two options Yes or No.. and then take it from there, doesn't matter what YOU want if you're not a Thai or a PR with the right to vote, it's about the Thai peoples rights..call it the" Yes Yes" Referendum , Scotland had a similar vote a few years back, leave the choices to the people, as this is all about them, not the Elite in both camps.

Jest?

The common people who wanted to vote mostly got a chance to vote, all 21m of them. Mind you as I indicated lots of voters also want their vote to be taken serious as beyond the "vote counted" stage. Furthermore a larger part of the electorate seems to barely live in the 20th century if they believe that voting is democracy. That's just what their local elite wants them to think, apart from the democracy is done after voting. It may sound undemocratic to say so, but a larger part of the population seems not ready for voting. A majority of the anti-government protesters might even be of the better educated segment of Thai. That another part has no clue is to be blamed on a patronage system which didn't really change late 19th century when all Thai became free. The 'big people' spread over Thailand still control the 'small people'.

As such it shouldn't surprise you when I say the ballot title or questions are meaningful. It assumes a mature electorate which knows what democracy means beyond voting. It means an electorate which can be vocal against abuse by any one. An electorate which has indeed manged to get to the stage of self-entitlement and self-relience.

Now indeed reforms are not about you or me, but about a growing number of Thais who realise that reforms are needed to make Thailand a democracy, a country where votes count beyong the counting, where votes count even if cast for the opposition, where checks and balances are taken serious and where normal citizens are protected from government oppresion. Reforms valid for and binding to ALL.

Now as for the Scotland referendum, let's not confuse matters. Before you know it some will talk secession again.

PDRC to hold mass procession in Bangkok on March 29

BANGKOK: -- The Peoples Democratic Reform Committee will stage a mass procession in Bangkok next Saturday March 29 to dramatise its demand for reform to be worked out before the country goes to the polls, protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban announced Saturday night at the Lumpini park.

He explained that originally he would like the mass procession to be held on Sunday March 30 but it would coincide with the Senate election and, therefore, the event was moved forward to March 29 in order to avoid misunderstanding that the PDRC plotted to disrupt the election.

The procession will start at about 9.30 am at the Lumpini park heading toward Sukhumvit Road to Pathumwan, into Phya Thai road and ending up at the Royal Plaza.

Participants of the procession were advised to bring their own lunches and drinking water as the PDRC kitchen might not be able to provide enough food for everyone, said Mr Suthep.

But prior to the big day, he said he would lead the protesters on daily march throughout Bangkok starting Monday to alert Bangkokians of the Saturdays mass rally.

IN other words, please bring money, we're skint!! Sounds like a Michael Yon plea !

In all fairness to Suthep and his gang, when have they been known to be dishonest and have been nothing but truthful since day 1 of their protests? What happened to the 30+ Million Baht that was raised for the farmers, does anyone recall that as ever having been presented to them? Wouldn't that have been a great PR image for him, showing him presenting the Farmers with a 30M Baht cheque? Or did this happen and I blinked and missed it??

"What happened to the 30+ Million Baht that was raised for the farmers, does anyone recall that as ever having been presented to them?"

The money that was collected "for the farmers" was used to pay lawyers to sue the goverment over the delay/non-payment of the rice money.

I don't suppose that these legions of very expensive ( and rather covert) lawyers were in any way connected with the very rich (and rather covert) backers of Suthep and PDRC?

It could not be, as that would be corruption, and we all know how set against that Suthep and PDRC are!

Apparently there may not be that many marchers as they are believed to be saving themselves for the final push.....

rubl,

When that "growing number" of Thais exceed the "who cares lets just move on" amount of Thais, then you'll get the reforms..

And to gauge this, use the elections, let the people tell the politicians what they want, not like they're voices are heard anyway. True Democracy is a pipe dream and a buzz word, it's never going to happen, I don't know many countries where there is such a Utopia, UK isn't that's for sure.

There needs to be a consensus as to what the real figures are that support "reforms before" right now everything is nothing but speculation, based on more speculation, many people as I've said before are stating that a Non vote is a no vote, no it isn't, i's like waiting all your life to race against a champion and he doesn't bother turning up, sure, you can race but what's the point? The idea is to test your own capabilities, and a strong belief you can upset the odds, and give the Champ a good run for his money.

The vote buying is an excuse, it was going on well before Thaksin ever came into Politics, it's not about the vote buying, it's about the Demographics, if Area A @ 50% has more people than Area B @40%, and Area C @10% isn't it just simple maths that the area with the largest population will pretty much always win?

The trick is to convince the people in Area A to vote for either Area B or Area C .. replace areas with political parties and the same applies, it's the reason why the Liberals in the UK would never ever hold power, they simply never had enough seats to be serious contenders, but look at them now, it was a hung Parliament I believe and Both Labour and the Tories needed the Liberals on their side.. all of a sudden, that little minority party was the big cheese, and they had both the big players in the palm of their hands..

This is what's needed to beat the PTP/UDD, they need unity between everyone else, so that they form a coalition and oust the PTP but they need to win over a lot of red shirt supporters to stand any real chance, and I cannot see that happening at all..

Let’s face facts; almost nobody really likes this government that mainly consists of lies, corruption, thieves, and liars not to mention the fact that many defeat the ends of justice by finding loop-holes in the constituency and using these to their own advantage, screaming “democracy” when it suits them and changing the rules of democracy when it doesn’t. Investing in the infrastructure of the country with high speed trains etc. but not upgrading the lives of the poor, a pathetic education system is one of the many reasons that supress the poor. Why not invest in the people first, before investing on all the fancy but unnecessary luxuries that only the elite can afford? And yet the propaganda sends a message “vote for us we will look after you”. Many have had enough, the working class, the farmers, as well as the international community.

Investing in the infrastructure is investing in the people. It can create millions of better paying jobs. Just giving money to the people never helps the people. Too short term. Jobs help the people.

Just one more scam to lay at Suthep's door. He stated quite clearly that the cash donated would be used to help farmers in financial difficulty, I don't recall him ever saying that it would be handed over to a bunch of lawyers - are they by any chance the same lawyers acting for his son over his illegal encroachment case, or those acting for Musso on his countless charges of murder, treason, etc.?

How the Suthep-huggers on this forum can remain unfazed by the never-ending deceit of this man, defies me.

Read it again, read it a million times, he wasn't stating a fact within the article, the question mark at the end of the sentence kind of gives it away as it being a question, so he was asking a rhetorical question as in was it 300 armed guards and 30 Protestors.. so... was it? :D

In other words, they didn't get a single Baht. How many lawyers does it take to file a law suit these days

The Lawyers most likely never charge anything for filing the lawsuits, but were probably given expenses........e.g. Non-metered Taxi's to and from the court 29.9 million baht and the rest would go in tips.

FINAL PUSH NO. 9 and counting.

I had this as final push #11, in any event the forecast for Saturday is 37 degrees, but hopefully there will be a warming trend later this week and Saturdays highs will be more like 41 or 42, that way there will be a figurative and a literal meltdown of this nonsense thumbsup.gif It sounds like the suthep graft machine has raided the till so the loyal followers will have to bring their own food and drink this time, that in itself should put a damper on the turnout whistling.gif

Yes, the contrast would be quite stark if you didn't know the recent history of Thailand.

Or if you believed there are fairies at the bottom of the garden.

What did Suthep exactly mean when he said "to bring your own sandwiches?", round of cheese and pickle, ham and tomato?. This is rice chomping country. Poor translation I guess.
