denby45
In celebration of the International Day of Happiness, Jetpac set out to find the happiest country in the world - measured not by how happy people say they are, but by their actual smiles.Finding the Happiest Countries in the World took doing image processing on over 150 million Instagram photos to count and size the smiles on people’s faces from all the cities in the World. From counting the pixels, we were able to come up with a Smile Score for every city in every country. Smiles on the faces of millions of people in millions of photos are the most direct measure we have of happiness. Previous attempts to measure happiness have relied on survey questions or indirect measures. Jetpac is identifying smiles on faces and then measuring the shape and size of the smile - a small grin doesn’t score as highly as a broad smile. Smiling for the camera seems to be a cultural norm for a country. Are some countries happier than others? Some definitely smile more than others… http://www.jetpac.com/blog/post/80147853816/the-international-day-of-happiness#.Uy-syqiSweg Top 124 Happiest Countries In The World 1 Brazil 60.82 Nicaragua 59.43 Colombia 49.84 Bolivia 48.15 Costa Rica 47.46 Honduras 47.27 Venezuela 45.28 Philippines 44.89 Guatemala 42.010 Mexico 40.111 Macedonia 40.112 Kazakhstan 39.613 Panama 39.414 El Salvador 36.215 Ecuador 35.316 Moldova 34.117 Netherlands Antilles 34.118 South Africa 33.619 Romania 33.420 Chile 33.421 Puerto Rico 33.222 Paraguay 32.923 Dominican Republic 32.724 Iceland 32.025 Lebanon 31.026 Peru 31.027 Uruguay 31.028 Laos 30.929 Serbia 30.530 Luxembourg 30.431 Ireland 30.432 Argentina 30.033 United States 29.734 Egypt 29.635 Kyrgyzstan 29.436 Ukraine 29.337 Albania 29.238 Angola 29.039 Turkey 28.940 Russia 27.541 Malta 27.442 Thailand 27.243 Portugal 27.144 Israel 26.945 Canada 26.746 Myanmar 26.547 Ghana 26.448 Bangladesh 26.249 Australia 26.250 Nigeria 26.151 Uzbekistan 26.052 Aruba 25.753 Bosnia and Herzegovina 25.654 Indonesia 25.555 Cyprus 25.356 Bahamas 25.257 Armenia 25.158 Malaysia 24.959 Bulgaria 24.760 Belgium 24.561 Trinidad and Tobago 24.462 United Kingdom 24.363 Norway 24.264 Brunei 24.265 Italy 23.866 Belarus 23.767 New Zealand 23.268 Singapore 22.769 Greece 22.370 Tunisia 22.271 Slovakia 22.172 Barbados 21.273 Azerbaijan 21.174 Hungary 20.975 France 20.876 Iraq 20.677 Vietnam 20.478 Jamaica 20.079 Morocco 20.080 Spain 20.081 India 19.982 Netherlands 19.683 Georgia 19.584 Finland 19.385 Nepal 19.386 Virgin Islands, British 19.287 Denmark 19.088 Kenya 18.889 Monaco 18.590 Croatia 18.491 Tanzania 18.292 Jordan 17.993 Sri Lanka 17.594 Palestine 17.495 Pakistan 17.296 Switzerland 17.197 Lithuania 17.198 Austria 16.899 Czech Republic 16.5100 Sweden 16.1101 Germany 15.6102 Montenegro 15.5103 Slovenia 15.5104 Latvia 15.4105 Poland 14.8106 Mauritius 14.7107 Andorra 14.6108 Qatar 14.6109 Estonia 14.4110 Cambodia 13.5111 Taiwan 13.4112 Macao 13.3113 Oman 13.3114 Hong Kong 13.2115 United Arab Emirates 12.9116 China 12.4117 Bahrain 11.7118 Iran 11.7119 Saudi Arabia 11.6120 Maldives 9.8121 Vatican City 9.8122 Kuwait 9.7123 South Korea 9.5124 Japan 4.1 Den

hanno
Saudi Arabia, Iran , Kuwait all at the bottom....wonder why As 50% of the population has their faces covered, measuring the intensity of the smiles might be a little difficult.
Popular Post Berkshire
This should bring out the knockers... Agreed Yeah, another troll thread meant to bring out the haters. The poll doesn't even make any sense. Most of the countries at the top are South American and mired in poverty. And at the very bottom, South Korea and Japan? Whatever.
cooked
For any official documents, Thais try to look as grim as possible, when I got my passport done last time, I was told to 'smile a little'. It depends on the circumstances, if people were being asked for a foto for survey purposes, they may well have put on their 'bureaucratic face'. Most of the selfies that I see on Facebook are smiling.

So according to you, money makes you happy? More so than poverty. Money alone doesn't make people happy. Neither does good health. Or good family. Or good friends. Or even good sex. It's a combination of things and you know it. So why make a smartass comment over something rather obvious?

Skeetjones
Actually it comes from the fore fathers meaning : LAND OF SIAM. (Mueng Siam). But to break ties from Laos relations they changed Siam and renamed the great land to Thailand. swissie
I thought this was settled some time ago: LOS is a perception of tourists, supported by the propaganda of the TAT. Long term expats will rather go with the formula: LOFS. Land Of Fake Smiles. Paradise lost, but still cheap to live here. Cheers.
