An aquaintance of mine just had his application to extend/convert his 30 day non visa stamp into a 90 day Non O refused. Jomtien told him he could have 7 days extension only.

Anyone know anything about this?

Upon what basis was he trying to do the conversion. In order to do a conversion you must qualify for an extension of stay of some kind.

It also requires having 15 days reaming on an entry.

Actually, I've known some who have gone from 30 day visa exempt entry to 90 day O conversion on the basis of retirement during the final few daysof the 30 day period here in Chiang Mai. Not a good idea, but sometimes they do make exceptions, especially during holiday times.

It really also depends on the reason for conversion. Based on marriage it is all much harder as it undergoes exta scrutiny, while based on retirement it is all straight forward.

As far as I know Jomtien don't / won't / can't do conversions they send you to Bangkok Cheangwhattana.

( vaguely recall someone saying they converted to retirement though )

Most offices that do a conversion will send you to BKK for a conversion based on marriage. And there you need to have at least 15 days left on your permission to stay for this conversion.

He certainly had more than 15 days left, not sure about the basis, Ill check in a few days.

You say nothing of any qualification for issue of 90 day non immigrant visa entry - the only extension allowed is 7 days regardless -= only if you ask for a visa issue because you qualify and submit financials/proof to allow a one year extension would a 90 day visa entry be allowed.
