Getting married in Thailand as a Dutch / Filipino couple

Hello guys,

I wanted to share my experiences of marrying my Filipino wife in Thailand and the process we needed to go through.

On the internet and Thaivisa we managed to find some information about the process, which, looking back at it now is quite easy.

First, the both of us needed to get a "Certificate of Capacity to Marriage" from our embassies, which required the following documents from our home countries:

The Netherlands:

- Huwelijksbevoegdheidsverklaring (Certificate of Capacity to Marriage)

- Internationaal Uitreksel Bevolkinsregister (Birth Certificate)

- Verklaring burgelijke staat (Civil status)

The Philippines:

- Birth certificate

- CENOMAR (Certificate of No-Marriage= Certificate of Capacity to Marriage)

After receiving those documents we went to our embassies:

- Dutch embassy released the document in English (1 page)

- Philippines embassy released the document in English (2 pages)

Make sure your estimated annual income and profession is stated on these documents AND you have no address in Thailand there, even if you're currently residing in Thailand.

The Philippines embassy forgot to release the second page of the document, included a Thai address and did not include the annual estimated income and proffession; this was not accepted by the Amphur.

All addresses and contacts should be OUTSIDE Thailand.

After making sure you have received all the proper documentation, get is translated from Thai to English and legalized by the Thai Ministry of Foreign affairs.

EMS your paper to the agency, pay the money, and wait for them to EMS them back.

The agency we used was called Masterpiecetranslation. Google for the info.

After receiving the documentation you can go to ANY Amphur, but be sure to bring TWO witnesses of which ONE is of Thai nationality. He/she will act as your TRANSLATOR.

Be sure to make TWO copies of all documents you acquired from your embassies and first page and Visa page of your passports and the passports/ ID cards of your witnesses. Make sure they've all been signed as well.

Go to the Amphur of your choice, fill in the documents provided. Make sure your names in Thai are the same as in your translation else you can redo them.

Your translator will need to fill out all the documentation.

After that you will receive your Thai marriage certificates / documents. These need to be translated back to English again AND legalised again after which you can register them with your home countries.

Most amphurs will provide witnesses for you, if you don't have one, to sign the register.
