NACC refuses to extend the period for Yingluck to defend herself

BANGKOK: -- National Anti-Corruption Commission secretary-general Sansern Poljiak said Thursday that the NACC had decided not to extend the period for caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to defend herself.

Sansern told reporters after the NACC meeting that the commissioners saw that the time given to Yingluck should be long enough.

The deadline on Monday was already the extension from the 30-day deadline for her defence after the NACC decided to charge her.

Unless Yingluck submits clarification, in person or in document, by Monday, the NACC would regard that she has no objection to the NACC's investigation report, Sansern said.

Good! The NACC isn't one of her brother's crony organizations like the DSI. She can't extend the date as it suits her.

I think the end-game, probably some deal, will be done before end of April.

Might be a bit early to send her packing... the last word on March 3rd was...

BANGKOK, 3 Mar 2014, (NNT) - The anti-corruption agency has yet to find any evidence of corruption on the rice pledging scheme, according to Wicha Mahakhun, Spokesperson of the National Anti Corruption Commission (NACC).

He was referring to the 50 - 60 billion baht allegedly taken from the rice scheme that the opposition claimed was being transferred to bank accounts in Hong Kong.

The NACC did not find any irregularity regarding the claim and encouraged anyone with the information to step forward and hand the evidence to the agency, said Mr. Wicha, who heads the investigation on Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's involvement in the rice pledging program corruption.

Initially, the NACC has inquired those who claimed to have information on the illegal transactions; however, upon the examination of the given leads, the agency has yet to find anything concrete about the claim, said the NACC Spokesman.

Nonetheless, Mr. Wicha said the investigation would continue and the Prime Minister has yet to testify.

granted that was 24 days ago...but have yet to see even a snippet of any real new leads...anybody else...?

Let's hope!!

Got to pass the week-end first though: they might just find another 20 tricks before Monday....

If only she was packing her bags as fast as the legal cases pack against her...

Brilliant news, Thailand should brace for more attacks from certain red-shirts.

She offers contempt, condescension, arrogance and through her terrorist wing offers to kidnap the NACC commissioners yet wants an extension?

So it seems 3 days to go as originally indicated…Nattawut and that other accused terrorist, Jatuporn will start ramping up there activities tomorrow then.

Wonderful news and I hope for the people of Thailand there is no corruption. If no evidence is found then there is nothing to worry about and the NACC can't charge the PTP with anything. Simply really. Evidence presented then charges are laid. Lack of evidence presented then charges are not laid.

That is what the NACC do. They dismiss cases with no evidence and proceed with cases that have evidence.

However if there is evidence found in the scheme then the PTP have to be held accountable for this and the verdict has to be accepted.

Whether you support Yingluck or not this has to be a positive for the country if Thai justice is beginning to show signs of grinding forwards at last. Too many crooks are spoiling the political broth here (on both sides) and they need to be dealt with quicker.

I happen to know Sansern Poljiak very well - I taught him for 18 months.

He is one of the most upright, incorruptible and nicest Thais I have ever met, with a sharp lawyer's mind.

He'll do this straight down the line, there'll no funny business from him.

Red sympathizers call Suthep a criminal. Yingluck is supposedly the Prime Minister of this country. So she, whether she likes it or not, is held to a higher standard. Haha clap2.gif

Couldn't possibly be better news. Bravo ! For the first time in the history of the NACC - indeed in the history of the checks and balances - never has a constitutional empowered institution been so relentless under attack - from Yingluck, by not showing up repeatedly, by her dressing down of the agency on facebook and through the media - in itself an unconscionable act by any prime minister - by her sitting back and allowing her Pheu Thai officials to threaten impeachment of its members, by demanding them to resign, by the UDD with their offensive tactics outside the NACC, encasing it in concrete - something that is now threatened to happen again - dismantling an army barrack placed to protect the agency, calling on red shirt radio to arrest on sight the members of this constitutionally empowered court, and the UDD's call for the dismantling of the agency. Through all these unspeakable and unprecedented acts, the NACC has stood firm. Yingluck has until Monday to either finally appear or provide documentation. Otherwise it will be assumed she finds nothing amiss with the conclusions of the NACC. And if the UDD moves in on the institution, the army will protect it and the constitutional process, as Prayuth has made it clear he intends to do.

That is the problem with Thailand, there are many upright honest politicians and lawyers, who end up being set up with false accusations by the corrupt.

I would be happy to see Yingluck gone - but who will take her place as caretaker prime minister?

I have a horrible suspicion it might be Surapong. Now that's a terrible thought - exchanging the best-looking (albeit corrupt and incompetent) pm in the world for what? A corrupt and incompetent alien.

God Help Thailand!

I'm a little confused. If the NACC doesn't have any evidence of wrongdoings, what are they accusing YL to have done? Why is there a case that her lawyers are studying? Could it be Wicha was just talking about the 60B claim?

Yes, I am biased and definitely not on the side of the government or the red shirts. I am also taking laughing at this farce of a government.
