My brother has worked there for the last four years and can't wait to get away, he's enjoyed the sights and scenery, but it gets old aftr a while.

Definitely not a place to even think of retiring - it's not possible anyway.

Since you did not mentioning retiring in China I am not sure anything was helpful, not all of us are at that age These links give you some good forums. I lived in China for two years and loved it. After another couple of years in Thailand will go back.

I know someone from the UK who is basically retired and living in China. Just built a house with his wife. He told me that the paperwork and requirements compared favorably to Thailand.

What does 'basically retired and living' mean?

China is not an immigration country, the most they will accept is repatriation, after thorough vetting.

Why would anyone even consider retiring there unless one's political ideology mirrors that of the Central Commitee?
