Has anyone found a way to send approx. 30 kgs of personal clothing for my daughter from Sydney to Bangkok without having problems with courier companies or Thai Customs. There will be three or four boxes of approx. ten kilos each.I tried once before and had major problems with DHL charging extra fees for no reason and Thai Customs wanting import duties.

You can try using a company like Jetta (www.jetta.com.au )who do unaccompanied luggage . There are other companies who do the same type of thing too I haven't an accurate price but 30 kg should be around $150.00. You will need to pick it up from Swampy and you are given only a few days to do that before they start charging storage. if it is clothing and looks used then there shouldn't be customs as it is personal attire - just take off tags etc .

Also good ol' Australia Post is far cheaper than DHL or the other courier companies.

I have used Oz Post but not Jetta so let us know how it pans out .

Would suggest you put together 5 or six smaller boxes of about 5 kg each and take one or two to the post office every week or two so that they won't arrive in a big attention-getting mass.

Probably cheaper shipping costs using the P.O. and definitely if you want to take the customs hassle out of the equation, the post office handles it way better than DHL, UPS or FedEx. Those shipping companies will insist you pay duty on everything even if customs don't want it.

I took my gear down to the Post Office in BKK they provide the box and seal it for you, mixed it up with new and used clothing and sent it on its way, no issues and about the cheapest option and absolutely no hassles at all, just mark as gifts and used clothing.
