For UK Visit Visa, the VAF1a form asks ...

8.1 If you are not a national of the country in which you are

applying, what permission do you have to stay in that country?

What should that applicant enter here? Invitation from sponsor ?

the guidance notes suggest things like residence permit, visa, green card. But none of these apply at the time of application, so what are you supposed to put down here?

It means;

8.1 If you are not a national of THAILAND in which you are

applying (THAILAND), what permission do you have to stay in THAILAND?

If the applicant is in Thailand and is a Thai National then they put "Thai National"
