^^ ... and that's one of the reasons that Westerns will never 'get' the Songkran Festival.

But everyone's different I suppose.

Last weekend at Nakka markets in Phuket I saw a penis and hairy balls water pistols for sale. They were skin coloured and very realistic in both size and shape. They were displayed in full view and caught my eye because I thought they were sex toys (I have never seen sex toys for sale at Nakka). Anyway they were 150THB a pop.

FYI, most Thais don't, and are wholly behind the b'stardisation of the traditional Thai new year. Op seeking best gun/cannon is right in line with this ethos... just avoid making oneself look boorish by going overboard as certain larger'd up farang are known to do in the tourist centers and all will be good.

So Dave, just for clarification ... the Thai population don't 'get' their own celebration/festival?

Oh please, if all you see is Thais tossing water around ... you frequent with the wrong people in the wrong places ... facepalm.gif

The last time I celebrated Songkran it was a combination of ...

post-104736-0-46579500-1397194051_thumb.

Respect early on, maybe day 1 or 2

post-104736-0-84268600-1397193917_thumb.

Ordination of the gf's Nephew as a novice monk for 10 days

post-104736-0-07325700-1397193769_thumb.

And then sure this ... and lot's of it.

All in balance ... maybe you just see the water bit and think the spirit and heart has gone from this special time? I was staying in a reasonable hotel in Pattaya of all places for Songkran ... a polite knock on the door and 3 maids were there. They just wanted to show respect to me.

One had a dash of water for my hands, another for the nape of my neck and the other, my forehead.

Maybe it just me ... I get to meet the nice Thais ... who knows.

Anything else the Natives don't 'get' ?

.

My kids are half thai. Is it bad they want a little fun.

The Mrs tends to enjoy it to.

Go to Bang Saen and see how many thais dont like it with farangs involved.

Scotland is well known for their hogmanay celebrations as most know. People from all round the world come. Welcome with open arms and a dram.

Thais tend to be the same.

I feel like getting one of these and bolting it to the back of my Vigo, and learning the Thai equivalent for "Go ahead Punk.........make my day."

I have no problem with little Thai kids fireing their water pistol at me its their big brothers in the back of a pickup throwing buckets of water at me that pisses me off.

We are making our own today.....just been to the construction shop for bits n pieces.

Tomorrow shall be a war of home made cannons....awesome.

Personally, I love the real meaning of songkran.....massive water fights for days....wooohoooo

Never done the gentile crap...thats for grandma, invalids and Englishmen.

The broken one that doesn't work

+1....You don't need the biggest or strongest water gun...

A bit of yellow food colouring could make this THE novelty item of the Songkran holidays.

... or spurt.

When you go out to play see what the other children are using and get something slightly bigger and better.

And if that yellow liquid hits me I'll reciprocate with red coming from your nose.

Songkran is awful. Who in their right mind would actually enjoy an all day water gun fight / all day drinking session in a positive, street party carnival atmosphere with tourists and locals alike of all ages.

Songkran would be banned in the majority of developed countries for various reasons of waste, alcohol consumption, policing, scarcity (see Singapore), health and safety, etc, etc. Love that we have this freedom here.

It's an all-out war out there. I recommend deep sea diving equipment if you have to go out.

Stay at home or better still leave the country !!

Just made 2 cannons....that was quick. Kids out testing them now.

A water gun that only works with sewage and back fires hitting it's user in the mouth

Essence of Ladyboy...gets my vote...

Songkran sourpuss alert.

The best one is the one that don't workmad.gif

^ come and get me big boy.

Not gunna happen though is it...scared a water n all.

Try using one that fires real live bullets.

It should be made a serious offense to fire or throw water into the face of anyone riding a motorcycle, i saw several crashes last year.
