phuketsub
When I first came here some 25 years ago the water was very nice, though you could see (especially in Patong) the disregard people had for it. Even then, most Thais never wanted to swim in the sea, always preferring swimming pools. ( I hate swimming pools and love the sea) Now this collective disregard, combined with numerous other factors (corruption, greed) has manifested itself in the sad reality of the above column, and many similar ones that came before it. I will never forget walking along Karon Beach just after the tsunami: it was perfect, beautiful. I felt like Charlton Heston's character at the end of Planet of the Apes.
