Malaysia says no mid-flight phone call from MH370 cockpit

KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia on Sunday rejected claims that phone calls were made from missing flight MH370 before it vanished, but refused to rule out any possibility in a so far fruitless investigation over the cause of the jet's disappearance.

The New Straits Times, quoting an anonymous source, had reported Saturday that co-pilot Fariq Abdul Hamid made a call which ended abruptly, possibly "because the aircraft was fast moving away from the (telecommunications) tower".

There had also been unconfirmed reports of calls by the Malaysia Airlines plane’s captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah before or during the flight.

Malaysian Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein told reporters Sunday that authorities had no knowledge of any calls made from the jet’s cockpit.

"As far as I know, no," he said when asked if any calls had been made.

However, he added that he did not want to speculate on "the realm of the police and other international agencies" investigating the case.

Prince William was meeting Cynthia Read, the woman who made the lace shawl that was New Zealand’s gift to George on his birth, when he told her "you might have to make another one soon."

Read told the New Zealand Herald, "the way William said it was like he was dropping a hint, letting me in on a secret."

Journalists following the duke and duchess on their April 7-25 tour to New Zealand and Australia are now keenly interested to see if Kate has a glass of wine at a scheduled wine tasting event in Queens town on Sunday afternoon.

Nobody allowed in Khao Phra Wihan National Park

Si Sa Ket, 12 April 2014 (NNT) - The Director of Khao Phra Wihan National Park has revealed that there has been a increasing incidence of illegal logging of Siamese Rosewood trees, and other valuable trees in the Khao Phra Wihan National Park, Si Sa Ket province.

Siamese Rosewood is expensive and there is a lot of demand for it.

A criminal organization persuades local people with money and drugs to log the trees for them. The process starts with local people going into the National Park for mushrooms, bamboo shoots, or animals for food. There they can observe national park officials.

The illegal logging of Siamese Rosewood trees is of critical concern since the logging involves an organization of Thai locals, people in a neighboring country, and certain unidentified armed troops. Khao Phra Wihan National Park has adopted a strict procedure to suppress illegal logging as a matter of urgency.

Therefore, it is now prohibited to go into the national park, in the area ranging from Chong Kam Phaka, Phu Pha Mok district to Don Tuan Khmer Ruins area, Kantharalak district, Si Sa Ket province.

If it's essential to enter the vicinity, one must be fully authorized by the Director of Khao Phra Wihan National Park for each and every entrance. If anyone enters this closely restricted area without permission, National Park officials will immediately proceed to take legal action
