Lost British Passport - Renew Where/ Need Police Report?

Passport mislaid, may turn up, definitely not stolen. Do I need to get a police report if it doesn't show up? And then take to Trendy or the British Embassy?

You will need a police report. Be sure you keep a copy of it for immigration because it will be needed to have your stamps put in the new one.
