very difficult now to get generic tramodol, the only place I know sometimes has it is still Boots, but it's about 300 baht for 10 so not generic I assume, they make you sign for it. Only trouble with it and similar drugs is it can cause bad constipation

I believe that is "Ultracet". It is low dose tramadol mixed with paracetamol. A very good example of a pharma company scamming the consumer. They take two very old, generic drugs.... Combine them in 1 pill and charge tons of money for it under brand name status.

Yes i agree Sheryl, they dont have the same affect as when i first was on them .. but i am under my doctors supervision..and he is comfortable with it all.. we have planned a visit to a pain management specialist.. here in Aust, and we have considered other pain killers too ... so i will see what he says when i visit him. Yes its not easy when you have had a very major car accident .. as inbangkok said ... you just do the best you can ... i know when i get a new doctor.. for reviewing my script... when he reads my injury list.. it certainly raises his eyebrows and comments.. how i survived it ... just young and fit at the time .. the only thing that saved me ... yes i have constipation issues sometimes .. but not really a problem.. maybe in early days it was ? yes i think Big Pharma is cashing in with LOS... as with most countries .. im sure they get most drugs from India for `Peanuts !! and resell for big profilt ... usual way whistling.gif ok thanks for your help here... i think i understand now.... what to do ... thumbsup.gif by the way ..i live my life independently and manage quite well,,, i just need this to get by after chronic pain takes over ,, and nothing else works ,, for me to sleep or relax.... also depends on the weather too.. so i was hoping warmer climate would be better as i get older ... it is very noticeable when the climate changes rapidly ...facepalm.gif Thanks again for your help smile.png

No idea how things work in Australia if your not there in person..

Talking to a guy last month [known for past 11 years] lives 2 Villages away, he is from UK in his 80's and is still registered with his UK Dr, he get his Medication free, he says he just e-mails his Dr and the meds are sent over.. or if his ex or his son are coming here then they go to his UK Dr and pick them up and bring them...

just wonder if that could be an option ?

Receiving controlled substances through the mail? Absolutely not. Could get into major legal trouble.

Addiction potential for tramadaol is less than with vicodan by far. But addiction can occur.

As best as I can determine, tramadol is still legal for OTC sale but the FDA is strictly enforcing requirement that all sales be recorded and reported monthly and a first class pharmacist be on duty at all times. And they seem to be scrutinizing sales records and questioning unusually large sales.

Actually these rules have always been in place and pertain to a large number of drugs, including antibiotics, but in practice are not strictly enforced as a rule. Due to some recent highly publicized events they are now being strictly enforced for tramadol.

Many pharmacies have simply decided it is not worth the trouble.

When they say "not allowed to order" they may mean, not allowed by their boss...not that it is not allowed by law or the FDA.

There are some pharmacies still ordering, receiving and selling it but they will ask for ID, record the sale and likely limit the quantity sold at any one time.

Although not an opiate, tramadol withdrawal is very similar to heroin withdrawal. Stay clear, especially if you have had any drug or alcohol problems in the past.

The usual addiction hysteria, it's no more habit forming than posting on here

LOL. Nope....

While not as addicting as heroin, it can definitely cause both addiction and dependence......

It can also cause physical withdrawal after prolonged use (especially at higher doses).

I agree that creating addiction hysteria is not needed..... It should also not be said that this drug has no addiction potential. It is an opioid (granted, a mild one) but still possess certain risks.

In fact Tramdol has a very low risk profile for dependency/addiction.

Reading on here a couple of weeks ago the addiction people have to Coffee... there was another a while back on Coke Cola addiction, so may just as well add 'addiction' to this topic...

Of course I must have an addiction or many as for 40 - 50 years always drink 6 - 7 black coffee's and have cereal for breakfast + a yogurt

Lol....I agree. But pain pills can indeed be dangerous. Especially when you can buy an unlimited supply from a pharmacy with no prescription. People do need to be a bit more careful with tramadol ......more so than with coffee at least.

Back on topic. It would be helpful if people who have been successful in buying Tramadol over the counter could say exactly where they got it. I'm in Bangkok and use it occasionally back pain but my usual pharmacy, Fascino, stopped selling it.

Oh, what a load of BS!

Tramadol is not addictive. Yes, it belongs to same group as morphine but is used precisely because there is no addiction to it.

When it comes to painkillers, it is very good one. As described above, it is well-suited for several uses. I broke my back in a car accident a decade ago and occasionally - perhaps once or twice a week - use to be able to sleep and function and to be able to walk straight.

I have not noticed any urge to take it. Sometimes it seems to dry the eyes and mouth but just about that.

What comes to availability, I don't know. I have a few pharmacists as sort of friends and normally ask them bring me some on their way home if needed. Saves a trip to local pharmacy.

I am self-medicating since had quite a many issues when coming to Thailand but here - presumably due to climate and diet - I now need only some painkillers every now and then. When people talk about strong painkillers, they seem to think it is drug related. Perhaps so but more than a few actually feel sick using them. Depending person. Most addicted seem to be persons that are prone to use alcohol or any other way to get their heads filled with substances. Something in the genes, I suppose.

Although caffeine and tramadol are both psychtropic drugs, comparing is rather foolish.

Tramadol is a HIGHLY addictive dangerous drug.

Do you have evidence for that claim ?

Links to reliable scientific/academic sources would be appreciated

Thanks

I agree that it is a highly addictive drug and have experience of addiction.

Denial is common with addiction.

I had to buy OTC a couple of times after an accident, but had no problems whatsoever....although I was limited to 2 sheets.

I also found it tramadol remarkably ineffective unless used in conjunction with paracetamol.

I managed to buy them on the Darkside last month. She pulled a big jar out and a small scoop and asked how many I wanted. Took 20, 5 baht each no questions asked.

How do you know you were sold Tramadol ?

It is a medication not normally sold by the "scoopful"

Obviously they're copies but they do the trick... Had people try them back in the UK who know their drugs and they reckon they're the real deal... So a few more "scoops" have been requested...

If they're the REAL thing and something you need long term, you should buy a bucket load at 5 baht each.

This regulatory nonsense is causing me a great deal of trouble.  Irritable bowel syndrome, arthritic knees and two disintegrating discs in my back make my life hell without painkillers like Tramadol.  I find it hard to believe that keeping a few teenagers from getting high  is any excuse for interfering with the supply of medication to people like us.  What was a 5 minute trip to the chemist every couple of months has turned into hours of waiting to see a doctor and repeat my symptoms every week to live a normal life.

If what you need is Tramadol then I do not see why this should be the case. As has been repeatedly explained in this thread, it can be gotten over the counter. No prescription is required. You need only to go to a large pharmacy (real pharmacy - not a Boots or Watsons) which has a real pharmacist on duty.
