car stereo - radio frequency?

Featured Replies

Thinking about getting a new stereo for our car - I will be visiting the UK and the US in the next few weeks, where the choice of car hi-fi is probably wider and cheaper (?). But will the tuner (radio) work here in Thailand? Are the frequencies used for civilian radio the same here as in the UK/USA?

Thanks for any advice on this.

Niltava

It's all the same.

In Thailand Easy FM is 105.5 FM, In UK Palm 105.5 FM, in the US Kool 105.5 FM.

The only difference is that it might be easier in UK to find a Sony car stereo with shortwave (SW) US not so much. If you are into that sort of thing.

The frequency range for FM and the tuning step size is different for some regions. The US and Europe are different for example. A tuner from one area will work in another but may not get all stations. Some tuners can select which step size is used.

Seems Europe and Thailand are similar so UK models may be OK. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FM_broadcast_band

also thailand uses quite a lot of the .05 frequency stations e.g. 105.55mhz or 87.05 which not all radios may support.

but luckily yes the FM frequency range is quite universal along with the 12v car voltages while for digital radio (DAB) systems im not too sure?
