I don't know about the UK, but I know someone who overstayed in Canada for 5 years. When he left back to his home country (Eastern Europe), no fee, no questions, nothing -- as there are no exit points in Canada. Then about 10 months later he was actually granted permanent residency status to Canada.

I would like to post an update to my friend if one of the mods could close this post because the follow up has nothing to do with this post anymore, he is back in Thailand forced by the officials trying to HELP him
