Hi

My friends Thai wife's passport will be expiring in November 2014 while she is in the UK while she is on a settlement visa and she is not due to go back to Thailand until next year in may 2015 after she has got her IIR, but due to recent health issues with her mother in Thailand, may mean that she might have to fly out to Thailand if her illness gets worse and she needs to be by her mothers bedside.

My Friend as asked me to ask the following questions.

1. What is the process of getting a Thai passport for his wife while she is in the UK.

2. Do they have to go to London in person to apply

3. What documents are needed for applying for a Thai passport while she is in the UK.

4. will the passport be issued the same day, If not, how long will it take for the process.

5. Her current passport is in her maiden name, Can you change this to her married name.

If her current passport has less than 6 months until the expiry date, Can she still buy a return ticket and fly to Thailand.

I think i have covered all their options apart from going to Thailand within the next couple of weeks with a open return ticket and renewing the passport in Thailand which is the easy option and she can spend time with her mother, But at the moment, Its not practical at the moment since she has a baby son that she looks after while her husband works.

but at some point she will need a new passport by the end of November of this year.

Any advice would be great.

Yes she can change her name on the new passport. Does her ID card show her married name or maiden name? If it shows her married name the new passport will normally be done in that name.

Thais can travel to and enter Thailand on an expired passport.;

Thank you for the information, I will pass it on.

Regarding been able to depart the UK on a out of date passport, Could this effect a re-entry with a new passport?

No effect at all when returning. She would need the old possibly if there were any visas and etc. that are needed for entry.
