My one year visa expires on Nov 19th. I know I can renew it up to 30 days prior but I plan to leave Thailand on Sept 1. When I return my visa would be expired. Would I have to re-apply for the one year visa when I get back? Does buying a re-entry visa help? Any ideas? Thanks

If you have a 1 year extension of stay for either marrage or retirement a reentry permit will not do you any good as it would only be valid until Nov 19th. You will have to reapply for and extension of stay when you return. What kind of "visa" do you actually have?

I have the retirement visa or rather the right to stay 1 yr. I figured as such. I thought maybe they would let me pay up upon my return and just give it to me but now I have to do all that paperwork again?

In reality you have an extension of stay based upon retirement it is not actually a visa.

If you not here when it runs out you will have to start all over again by getting a single entry non-o before returning.

Or applying for a conversion to 90 day non immigrant visa entry at immigration after returning.

And then apply for a new extension stay.

The paperwork for the first extension and for subsequent extension is the same.

The only extra thing you'll need to do is go get a visa, or do the conversion. That part, though, is your choice.

Good luck.

But as I recall don't I have to have a police report from my home town plus a doctor letter? How do I do that once I am back, the police report would seem to be a problem or do I just get it while back home??

You don't need a police report or medical to get a single entry non-o visa. You only need those for a non-oa visa,

Nor do you need them for a conversion done at immigration here.
