BANGKOK, April 22 -- Caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Monday posted a message on her Facebook page, expressing worry about the impact of political crisis on the economy, particularly the tourism sector.

In her message on Facebook, Ms Yingluck said she was concerned about the adverse impact of the current political crisis on the overall economy, as well as the country's financial health, especially budget management for the 2014-2015 fiscal year which has been disrupted by the political deadlock which has lasted for more than six months.

The caretaker premier said that many key economic indicators in February have continued to show downward trends, especially household spending, private sector investment and industrial production.

The National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) has adjusted its economic outlook projection, lowering the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth for this year from 4-5 per cent to 3-4 per cent, she said.

Financial institutions have also forecast the country's economic growth at only 1-2 per cent, she added.

Ms Yingluck pointed out that the tourism sector, which previously enjoyed continuous high growth, has become worrisome as the number of inbound tourists has dropped.

The number of travellers at Suvarnabhumi Airport has declined by 20 per cent, and at Don Mueang Airport by 14 per cent.

She said the 2014 fiscal budget was delayed for six months so that it cannot be used to stimulate the economy as planned.

Revenue collection has also missed its target, particularly the Value Added Tax (VAT), because the public has reduced spending, she said.

Ms Yingluck urged the economic agencies to closely follow up the key economic indicators to evaluate and address the problems.

She is optimistic that with cooperation from all agencies concerned, investor confidence could be restored and the economy could eventually expand. (MCOT online news)

I feel better now knowing the PM is all over the problem...or is it the problem is all over her.

Well a nice old how do you do , not related to the underhanded way the PTP did on the Amnesty Bill , the circumventing of normal procedures in trying to raise 2.2 Tn Bht, the payment of Rice Farmers scheme , corruption rife right through-out the system, brother Thaskin continued interference , unreliable senior management in departments, nepotism , a total disregard for the rule of law only when it suits, and a general decaying of Thailand's social morals with intimidation , grenade attacks , Physical violence , murder, no thought not , everybody's fault but your own , just go's to show madam PM, how a well balance person like me can be wrong.bah.gif

Give her some credence she doe's know how to use Facebook.

I would love to see the bill for all of trips and shopping sprees away from Thailand, and the private jet that was attained. It's funny how all of that ended, once the lost money accusations began to fly.

It stopped when Yinluck started posting her location on Facebook, much harder for the haters to lie about private jets and shopping trip when you have facebook postings that show where she was.

3 days in pattaya... 2 days in Bangkok. Only 20% less at subi? well I spoke to 4 hotel managers of 5 star properties. They are at 25% and I saw not many tourists at all compared to normal numbers at this time based on my 17 years of frequently coming here. Dramatically reduced.

The reason? No government is going to,lift travel advisories whilst this cow remains defiant

You should be worried, wait until more people start visiting Vietnam. Although, I would think you have bigger issues to worry about. An "educated" person would know that these problems are irrelevant, if you can't solve the political issues at home!

why is she worried about those pesky tourists? Did she not say they are less than 7% of the economy and not that important?

Lets see her squirm now as they won't be back for a few years. There are big issues overseas affecting decisions too

well I can honestly say tourism is also slow for Thai airways. At BKK today I counted 19 planes idle under wraps engines covered and all doors closed parked way away.... That is near 20% of the Thai fleet

Look in the mirror and see why!

Look at Suthep and see why, the dear leader is trying to overthrow the elected government and that makes tourists uneasy.

Very simple, allow elections and the tourists will come back.

I don't think the tourist will have a big problem with demonstrations, but more with the shootings and granate tossing. So stop blaming Suthep and the anti government protesters for everything.

Do you blame Suthep to, when your wife burns your dinner by mistake?

You are not even counting the 4 A340s at DMK, or other airports.
