Gov makes appearance during Patong elections

PHUKET: With the mayoral elections taking place in Patong today (April 26) Governor Maitri Inthusut visited several polling stations and said he has not heard of any complaints from either side about vote rigging.

Three candidates - former Mayor Pian Keesing, former MP Chalermluk Kebsap, and former council member Kittisun Kuru - are all on the ballot. Voters will also get to choose the new City Council in this election with all three polling locations (with a total of 23 voting units) set to close at 3pm today.

Along with Assistant Governor Saree Panichakul, Gov Maitri was seen talking with election overseers and volunteer staff at the Ban Sai Yen Municipality School, one of the three polling locations.

There are over 12,000 registered voters in the district and Gov Maitri said he expects about 60 per cent of them to cast their ballots today.

The results of today's mayoral elections in Patong are expected to be announced at 8pm tonight.
