Diet Pills Sold at the Market, What kind of pills can it be ? Esaan use them to lose weight.

Hello,

I know a girl from Esaan who takes pills that she buys at the market when she wants to diet.

Do you know what kind of pills it can be ?

Can they sell something dangerous at the markets in Thailand ?

Seems crazy for me that someone can take pills without even knowing what it is ?

Any idea ?

"Seems crazy for me that someone can take pills without even knowing what it is ?"

Have you any idea how much substance abuse is happening around the world, or even just in Thailand alone?

What people believe they are taking is not necessarily what they end up taking after the cutting processes. A person buying what is advertised as diet pills from a local market falls into this category as far as I'm concerned.

Better than the bar girls smoking ICE to keep weight off. When Thaksin cracked down on pot and other drugs, girls switched to meth because the cops couldn't find it or smell it. They found the extra benefit of weight loss. Yes, I know girls personally who made the switch or just smoke now. I recently saw a hottie in a bar in Nana who couldn't stop fidgeting with her hair etc. I wanted to take her based on her looks, but NO WAY. Minimal attention span.

I've known a couple who have managed to keep the use under control.

I suspect more likely high doses of caffeine rather than amphetamine. Another popular item among Thai girls is called "Slimming Coffee"... which claims to contain other ingredients beyond coffee. I know the stuff certainly killed my gf's appetite, though caffeine will do that to. But she also said it made her jumpy and ill-tempered (hello caffeine). So apparently we have a choice between good-natured fat gfs and ferocious slim ones... smile.png

If they are the same ones that my wife was using then they are very dangerous indeed.

My wife was using a Chinese Brand that was basically full of Amphetamine and caused her to be hyperactive

followed by severe bouts of paranoia and aggression. When she first started to take them she did not sleep for eight days.

In the end I forced her to go to the local hospital to get help.

They tested her heart and her rested heart rate was 130 BPM so they carried out and ECG to see if she had damaged her heart

which fortunately she had not. They did say continued use could cause her serious heart problems.

But even more than the physical side effect the mental ones where even worse, the bouts of paranoia and aggression

got worse and worse the longer we stayed on the drug. We finally managed to get her off the drug but it took a good

six months or so to get back to some resemblance of normality.

Now her sister is taking them and is showing the same signs that my wife showed.

I spoke with a friend of mine who is a Psychiatrist from the UK and he told me he has even had to sanction some people

that are taking this drug. He strongly advised me to get my wife help to get her off this drug because the effects of long

term use can be irrevocable.

I know a girl who was in a similar situation here in Bangkok. It isn't an "Esarn" thing as the OP put it. In fact, this is a trend picked up by the rural provinces from Bangkok. Take a look around, the obsession with "perfect" is dangerously out of control; clinics packed day and night with women wanting to change the way they look, lighten their skin, get rid of the slightest blemish. The rapid weight loss is an extension of that. The girl I knew taking these pills developed serious insomnia and was practically incoherent by the time she got help.

They may not have an amphetamine base. But first of all, are the indicated actions (that is loosing weight) actually occurring. Like a lot of this dieting crap sold in Thailand and in the West, they don't work. At best with some individuals it could be a placebo effect. Or a laxative effect. They could have a mixture of Chinese herbs in them, which can be bloody dangerous. Some herbs contain actives brewed in nature's kitchen that are not fully understood. I.e. no research or quality testing has been performed. Some contain weird opiate like compounds. At worst some are definitely carcinogenic.

With Chinese medicines the Thai FDA basically only requires the species of plants contained, to be on the label. And possibly content. Whereas ethical pharmaceutical products have to be labelled with a product name, the known pharmaceutical active names (as per the Thai pharmacopeia), content, manufacturer, batch number and expiry date.

As most of us known, a hell of a lot of crap (some very dangerous crap) is sold on the street in Thailand, and some do make it into legit pharmacies. And this includes the counterfeit Viagra, Cialis etc.

Don't get me wrong I am not anti-Chinese medicine, some have very legitimate pharmacological uses.

I should know, I have by performing GMP audits on pharmaceutical manufactures for more than 20 years. Both in Thailand, SEA and the west.

But then again the tablets could contain an amphetamine base or derivative. You would have to be stupid to take them, just like the counterfeit Viagra, Cialis etc.

Garcinia Cambogia is the stuff. The genuine jars of capsules contain a powder which is ground Garcinia which is absolutely harmless and cheap. It works by blocking harmful fats in food allowing the body to dispose of existing fat cells naturally and quickly. You can take a pill a day forever and it will not harm you.

But the product in the jar must be 100% Garcinia Cambogia.

I doubt manufactures are putting amphetamines in OTC diet pills, especially when ephedra is legal and has a similar effect. High doses of ephedra can cause tachycardia and other cardiac problems and supplements containing it are no longer allowed in certain countries.

Even if there is a lable listing fat-blocking or natural appetite suppresents or stimulants there's still no guaranty that it also doesn't contain Phen-fen or ephedra.

My wife tried some she bought from a store in a mall and had trouble sleeping and discontinued their use. No stimulants that I recognized were listed on the label.

I have seen otherwise healthy Thai girls develop serious cardiac arrythmias (abnormal heart rhythm) from these "coffee" drinks.

As for the pills, there are:

- laxatives - herbal and otherwise

-sibutramine (Reductil) - I think no longer marketed but probably still on some shelves. Legal but not a good idea except under a doctors supervision

-amphetamines - illegal except fro ma doctor at a hospital

-various products not approved by the Thai FDA (often being sold as non-pharmaceuticals but rather as "supplements"). May contain caffeine, laxative, amphetamines etc.

not only that:

acne

breathing problems

concentration problems

sleepless

liver problems

etc etc etc

Alternative there other tablets which contains just nothing and of course don't work...but at least they don't harm.

Be clear that simply taking Garcinia Cambogia (tropical fruit extract with active ingredient HCA) does not include a laxative or an amphetamine. It strongly suppresses the appetite and cravings in some people. It does not speed metabolism. Credible studies have shown it is generally safe to use for 12 weeks but after that it is not known because of no studies. This is NOT what we are talking about here. The typical "diet" brew the Thais usually take are indeed generally clearly dangerous especially long term. I have yet to meet a Thai who uses just garcinia cambogia (which is ironic as good sources of it are so cheap here). Garcinia Cambogia may have drug interaction issues with other meds like statins, high blood pressure meds. etc.

And these dangerous Thai tablets do work and quick...that is all what counts for the girls....

I know they are used short term by Muay Thai fighters to make weight. They "might" be OK for short term and yes they work short term but they are certainly no kind of long term healthy weight control strategy.

Well I have seen numerous girls who kept slim, but don't know what they do, maybe they are on and off these tablets all the time. But no question it has nothing to do with healthy.....some even start smoking Ya Ba to keep/get slim (that is also the point when you can't use them in the office anymore, because that things makes them complete crazy).

Muay Thai? Doesn't that make problems with their training? Would have thought more Clenbuterol and T3 Hormon together with some Anabolics....but I have no idea about Muay Thai...it is only surprising me.....

When I was back in the US I was at an Asian food store and they had the slim drink coffee . I bought some just to see if it worked . Within an hour of two my stomach felt like there was a tag team wrestling match in my tummie and the bathroom couldn't have been close enough ..... Wife laughed said told you not to buy that ....

Probably the same one's that made my ex flip her lid and become a psycho with severe aggression but she's clean now - moved onto whisky instead and made her equally unstable. But now her butt is becoming the size of a small African nation.
