Taxi transportation cost at night around Bangkok...

I'm live in Banlampoo area and want to get to and from Banglampoo area to central Bangko (Sukumvit, Siam Sq, etc) during the hours of say, 9PM to 2AM. Can I get a "meter" taxi rate at those times, or do the taxis demand a flat rate (usually high) because it's night time (or whatever other excuse they use)?

PS How late does the sky train run?

thanks

Taxis do try and get you to agree to off-the-meter fares, but if they do, hail another one and after stopping a few, you should find one to take you on the meter, even at night.

Try taking one's number and threaten to report him to the carriage office which may fine him. Sometimes they have a change of heart! Give him a tip though, the fares are ridiculously low.

You can't get a metered taxi during the DAY on soi 4! Reporting them does nothing. I'd walk a kilometre in 334 degrees rather than hire most BKK taxis.

Everyone has his own differing experiences. Mine has been that if you can't get a meter taxi after about 5 attempts, the driver probably knows about a traffic snarl up somewhere en route and doesn't want to go that way, or its the end of his shift and wants a job that takes him nearer home. I've never had a problem getting a cab on 'soi 4' ( I assume you mean Sukhumvit). Being clear about your destination helps, as does the driver believing that you speak enough Thai to direct him if he gets lost. Generally they're not bad chaps in my opinion. I got one last night (the first one I'd flagged) from Suk soi 3 to Victory Monument for 57 baht which is ridiculously cheap.

Talking to the driver in basic Thai language usually works quite well. I've never had a problem. Speaking like a clueless tourist will usually get you into trouble. i would suggest learning your request in Thai when speaking to taxis.

Yes you can. I get metered taxis all day long in that area.
