Listen to Lord Buddha's words, says top monk
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- For the upcoming Visakha Bucha or Vesak Day, acting Supreme Patriarch Somdet Phra Maharatchamongkha-lachan urged all Buddhists to observe Lord Buddha's teachings and perform their duties with mindfulness and for the benefit of the majority.

The revered monk, who is abbot of Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen, said that the holiday coincided with three important events in the Lord Buddha's life - his birth, enlightenment and death - on one full moon day in the sixth lunar month.

The monk said, before dying the Lord Buddha delivered his final teaching as "subject to change are all component things, do not be reckless".

The monk urged everyone to observe this teaching by reflecting upon oneself and maintaining mindfulness and reflecting upon one's duties so one can perform them with mindfulness and for the benefit of the majority.

In 1999, the United Nations named Visakha Bucha an international day.
