davidstipek Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 I am up for my exit and re-entry stamp for my Non-Imm B visa tomorrow. Bus ticket already purchased. I'm hoping it's just tourist visa people and not those possessing actual visas. This is bad news for many. Oh Thailand.... Like you I have question as it seems to be avoided being answered: 1: If you have a current One Year Visa with re-entry stamp are you affected by this if you choose to do your 90 day, exit and entries? (I know I can do at Thai Immigration next to Chiang Mai Airport Office) 2: Does this mean you cannot exit Thailand for Visit... Day, Week or Month to Burma? (Sick friend in Burma... Our Permanent Residence/Home in Chiang Mai) 3: If so does this mean we were scammed when we purchased single or multiple re-entery permits? There seems to be others who are confused by the minimum length the responses seem to be... If I have to fly to Yangon and drive to Border area, I will then when I go to Border I will present on Thai Side My Bill for added expenses (all receipts) when I return to Thailand. As I have current Visa and Multiple entry Permits....! Please address questios #1, #2, #3 Seperately Please! Do like when you are asking Thai... yes... No... okay? Not me but some seemed to require specifics not long winded projections....

John Clarke Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 The situation causes discomfort for some, but the Thai govt should have been advising this for at least 3 months prior to commencement. Popular Post WarProfiteer Posted May 10, 2014 Popular Post Posted May 10, 2014 This is beyond retarded. I am guessing that even the cheapest CC's still spend more than a local does in a year. Then ya have lots of folks who arent old enough to meet the retirement visa age, but have plenty of money/investments on which to retire, but have play the visa run game... I'm guessing they spend expenontially more in a year than a local. Yet so much effort goes into making the farang feel unwlecome. Even when you can get a proper visa, you still have to go check in every 90 days like you're on permanent parole. This is why I have decided that I will never retire to Thailand. I am only interested in taking my retirement accounts and spending to a place that is welcoming to foreigners. Central & South America seem like a far smarter choice these days. 4

I don't understand where this panic is at. Sure some people have been caught in this but the majority of us out here in the wilds have been aware of this nonsense for years and have acted accordingly. Long gone are the days of 30 day back to backers. Damn! That ship sailed long ago with the 100 baht daily overstay fee and the bloke you could pay to take your passport to the border and back.. So... We adapted, we want to live here see. So we went the Non Immigration route and we don't get no problems, in fact we get a smile and sometimes a joke or two about being here so long. But relying on this 15 day nonsense. You're really asking for problems, and again I get it but really, to bleat and bemoan this action is to really not get the visa situation in the slightest. Try doing 15 day runs in the UK! 7
John Clarke Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Early last year I got 2× 90 day visas ($90 au), then come September last ($90 au) only get 2 x 60 day visas......I cannot understand the rational they have, like to make everything not so easy Sent from my GT-P5110 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
Beng Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Are they turning everybody away or only those without valid visas or re-entry permits is what we need it know. It only seems to be happening at Mae Sai. No reports for anywhere else. Good question !! Can anybody clarify this ?

I was on a 30 day exempt and I crossed the border into Malaysia today with no issue at all. It wasn't a border run as I'm going on holiday for a month but they didn't ask anything. (I was travelling by train FYI)

luckyluck Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 I have the 60 day tourist visa x 3.. do visa run to Burma, no idea where we go forgotten the name, over to island where there are casinos and back again with andaman travel, think that is what they are called.. Does this apply to this visa also, or are we ok? cost a fortune to fly in and out.. One thing, this is making me decide to return home, it is just not worth the hassle.

DGIE Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 very worried now, visa run due 21st this month, some official story would be nice from you boys at TV Mae Sai is my border bounce. I am not going out of Thailand every certain period of time but I heard some that use Banlem and Laos. Can you not go to those places?
sonnyt34 Posted May 10, 2014 Author Posted May 10, 2014 Ok, as this policy is brand new, it appears that the border personnel are following it above and beyond, meaning they are going to be stopping everyone until monday afternoon when they have better instruction of how to follow this from the Bangkok office. What this may mean even those with actual visas may not permitted to border cross as the one reply from Mae Sai on Americans, and Canadians with various visas not being permitted to exit Thailand stated. This thread was meant to be informative and to compile info from others to verify the extent of the enforcement of this new policy. Currently my advice for the week if you can fly, come back after a day or two, the on arrival is renewed and there will be no problems the problem is same day, same hour runs that do nothing for either countries economies. Go to a consulate or embassy on your trip and get a visa with extensions, break the cycle for a few months and test the waters after the next policy hits in August. I will be returning to Thailand in September ayer I depart in June, I will get an Ed Visa, it seems easy enough and worth the money to avoid the visa run hassle.

So no need to worry. I have a triple entry tourist visa in my passport from Thai Embassy in London.....do you think it will affect me? I have 2 entries left to use! I see it does not affect me....phew! "Non-Immigrant Visa or Tourist visa holders with remaining entries on their visa can exit and enter Thailand as before" Time to get married for an easier life! slipperylobster Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 This is pretty ridiculous. Even people who have proper visas often do a couple border runs when it runs out and before they can get a new one. This affects a lot of people legitimately working or studying here, as well as legitimate tourists. They should be able to tell the difference between someone who does the border run a few times, and someone who is living for 5 years on a border runs. Unfortunately, those who abuse the system spoil it for the rest of us. of course...the system is never at fault... It is always those darn tourists screwing it all up. 1

slipperylobster Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 yeah...some guys just get upset because they bought the farm...so to speak... and have settled in. I am here to tell you.....good for you. Great, you relocated and signed all the proper documents, and moved all your savings to the Bank of Thailand. They love ya. and I am sure you got the proper one year extension thing. Good on you. the rest of us...well, we just are not there yet. so forgive us our indiscretions for using Thailand as a viable option to ride out the harsh winters of our homeland. We all love to get Tourist Visas...but then, somehow, well, we leave earlier than expected, but return. There goes that visa. Now, it used to be a land run or two. But that's gone now Well....now I am being told that I must live here to stay longer than a few months. I don't really want to do that. Get it? 1
