Costas2008
Very sad with the loss of your wife and child Khun Nampon. May both rest in peace. What I can't understand is why the hospital took so long to give an explanation to the man?

Popular Post Mister Fixit
Very sad with the loss of your wife and child Khun Nampon. May both rest in peace. What I can't understand is why the hospital took so long to give an explanation to the man? Terrible thing - my ex-wife lost 6 children when pregnant, including one set of twin boys at 6 months and another boy at 6 months. I feel for the poor man, and know just what it's like. Luckily, my wife lived. But you know very well why the hospital didn't come forward, Costas - they are too timid to admit they messed it up - very rarely will a Thai accept responsibility for a misdoing ... I hope he can get a decent lawyer to help him out - although I think he'd prefer to have his wife and child back. Very sad, and my heart goes out to him.
Popular Post Pii Kate
I am so sorry for his loss and glad he is questioning the hospital rather than chalking it up to karma. I hope he can find peace,
Donnie Brasco
Very sad with the loss of your wife and child Khun Nampon. May both rest in peace. What I can't understand is why the hospital took so long to give an explanation to the man? I saw the man on the news. I openly wept for him in his anguish. As for anyone actually stepping up to take responsibility for THE OBVIOUS, here; Are you kidding ? With 2, two, TWO or three of four local and national hierarchies in play here, the blame for this act of criminal negligence will have to be placed upon an individual with no connections to anyone of consequence. The slimy toads in charge of this "investigation" will be frantically rummaging around, looking for a dead Burmese maid to fill the bill. "Sometimes, 'fuggedabowdit' just means fuggedabowdit. . . . KarenBravo
I agree that they should have given notification a lot sooner, but to claim that the doctors made a mistake is pure speculation and slander.
Donnie Brasco
Aweful. I hope he gets some answers and some closure, poor man. +1..Sad story. I hope he can get some answers. Oh, don't worry. This poor man will be given many many answers. As many answers as those involved can crank out. Any answer at all will do, just as long as it doesn't point a finger. Aside from avoiding Thai medical care like the plague, do not rent cars, bikes, jet skies, SCUBA gear, bunji time, or, for that matter do anything that might land you in a hospital here. Do NOT vaccinate here, do not undergo joint transplants here unless you have a decent home state diagnosis, do not trust these toads with ANY aspect of your personal well-being or the well-being of your loved ones. Thailand is a cast society and a director of a hospital would never explain him/her self to a taxidriver.

At this moment we have only heard one side of the story. It might be better to hear the other side as well, before jumping in to conclusions. We don't really know what has been communicated, has there been mistakes, is the hospital still trying to figure out what went wrong and therefore are not able to release information which might be eventually wrong.. Surely autopsies must be performed to gain those "answers" but do you really think the results of the autopsies will show malfeasance? The cause of death will be heatstroke.

fabianfred
In earlier times it was quite frequent that the birth of a child caused the death of the mother or both... not so frequent anymore, but still happens..
DogNo1
Geez! We can at least HOPE that the bereaved father will get an honest explanation and an expression of condolence from the doctors involved. Sometimes things just do go wrong and/or mistakes are made. I've had some irritating mistakes made in my medical care from time to time and I've gotten over it. Although this taxi driver has suffered a heart-rending loss, in time he could marry again and have more children. I really feel for the guy but hope that he will go on to make the most of his life. Donnie Brasco
Just Google "iatrogenic fatalities, mishaps" for North American hospitals. Engineers, lawyers and accountants who make mistakes of this caliber are sued and ruined. But what are the chances here of post mortem inquiry into this tragedy ? KarenBravo
Again......there is no mention of "mistakes" made by the doctors. The only people that are mentioning them are TV posters that lean toward conspiracy theories.
webfact
Inquiry initiated into death of Phuket mother and newbornPhuket Gazette Numporn Intawong led a brigade of friends and family to Vachira Phuket Hospital to demand answers for the deaths of his wife and son. Photo: Kritsada MueanhawongPHUKET: -- Doctors at Vachira Phuket Hospital began an inquiry today into the death of a woman during childbirth on May 2 and that of her newborn son just two days later. The investigation follows a protest on Saturday led by the distraught husband and father Numporn Intawong and 50 of his family members and friends.Mr Numporn, a 42-year-old Patong taxi driver, and his group gathered at Vachira Phuket Hospital when he went to pick up the body of his infant son, Assawin Intawong.“It has been a week since my wife died on May 2, but no one has called to explain her death to me, to apologize or to offer compensation,” said Mr Numporn on Saturday.“My wife was given medicine to induce labor that day, but died before our baby was delivered. So, 30 minutes later, they performed a C-section to take the baby out.“My son died two days later. I want justice for my family and I want this to be a lesson for other people.”The inquiry will clarify details of the case and search for ways to prevent such deaths in the future, said Hospital Director Dr Jessada Chungpaibulpatana.“No doctor ever expects or wants something like this to happen, but sometimes it does. We always try our best to save every patient’s life,” said Dr Jessada. The body of the mother, Pornthip Buddeekum, was sent to Police General Hospital in Bangkok for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.“At this stage, I cannot reveal much more, as we are waiting for the results of the autopsy,” Dr Jessada said.“We expect these results to be back next week. When we receive them, I will call a media conference to clarify the details of the incident with the family, friends and public.“Our thoughts are with the family of the mother and son. Doctors and representatives from the hospital have attended funeral proceedings at Laem Petch Temple in Patong, and we are helping the family as much as we can.”— Kritsada MueanhawongSource: http://www.phuketgazette.net/phuket-news/Inquiry-initiated-death-Phuket-mother-newborn/29417#ad-image-0-- Phuket Gazette 2014-05-13
