Sugar Man director Malik Bendjelloul dies aged 36

STOCKHOLM: -- Oscar-winning Swedish director Malik Bendjelloul has died at the age of 36.


His body was found late on Tuesday in the Stockholm area, police say. They could not confirm the cause of death but said no crime was suspected.

He was best known for Searching for Sugar Man which won the Oscar and Bafta prizes for best documentary in 2013.

Oscar winning director Malik Bendjelloul dead at 36

Los Angeles - The Oscar winning Swedish director Malik Bendjelloul was found dead Tuesday in Stockholm, the website Deadline.com reports, citing the Swedish Paper Expressen.

The director was 36 years old. The cause of death has not been released.

Bendjelloul won an Oscar in 2013 for his documentary Searching For Sugar Man.

The film follows two South Africans who set out to discover what happened to the American folk musician Sixto Rodriguez whose records were a huge successes in the 1970s in South Africa though he remained unknown in the US.
