500-year-old mystery: Wreck off Haiti may be Columbus' flagship Santa Maria
By Jethro Mullen and Haimy Assefa, CNN

(CNN) -- Is a sunken shipwreck off Haiti the long-lost remains of the Santa Maria, Christopher Columbus' flagship from his first voyage to the Americas?

Underwater explorer Barry Clifford, who led a team that found and investigated the wreck, says he's confident it is.

"Every single piece fits. Now, of course, we have to go through the whole archeological process, and we plan to do that within the next few months, but I feel very confident that we've discovered the site," he told CNN.

"This is the ship that changed the course of human history," Clifford said.

Without doubt, the world would have been totally different if Columbus hadn't discovered the part of the world that now wants to control the whole world.

UH, that was England before it got too puny to do anything at all. England was the King of Colonizers and World Controllers.

The first damn thing England did to the new colonies established after Columbus was to send the British Army and take control and make America its colony.

The Americans had their own guns and went after that king's army, and with the help of France ran him off.

Britain went home with its tail between its legs and hasn't amounted to a shit since. All it can do is sit and whine.

Columbus was Italian and the explorations were Spanish -- but don't let facts dilute your ardour wink.png

Huh? Are we in the same thread?

And the americans never have forgiven France for having succeeded in this.smile.png

Christopher Columbus' long-lost ship Santa Maria found, explorers say
Zachary Fagenson

Miami: -- A shipwreck found off the north coast of Haiti could be the 500-year-old remains of the Santa Maria, which led Christopher Columbus' famed voyage to the New World, according to a team of marine explorers.

"All the geographical, underwater topography and archaeological evidence strongly suggests that this wreck is Columbus' famous flagship, the Santa Maria," Massachusetts marine investigator Barry Clifford said on Tuesday. "I am confident that a full excavation of the wreck will yield the first-ever detailed marine archaeological evidence of Columbus' discovery of America."

Mr Clifford, 68, who led a reconnaissance expedition to the site last month, said he would like the ship to stay in Haiti as part of a permanent exhibition to help the country's struggling tourism industry.

Yes, but I'm just wondering why it's not called "Christopherica".

America is named after Amerigo Vespucci, the Italian explorer who set forth the then revolutionary concept that the lands that Christopher Columbus sailed to in 1492 were part of a separate continent.

Well I would never have known that.

Maybe it's because Columbus thought he was in China and Japan.

Please read your history books again rather than getting your 'facts' from Fox News. The British Empire reached its apex well after the American revolution, and Britain was the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, which is responsible for much of what we have today. Surely you must have wondered why English is so widely spoken in the world?

Geez, you make it sound like the Brits showed up in America to find 13 fully formed civilisations of white folks and decided to colonise them.....

[and no, I'm not a Brit ].

They came back in 1814 and marched an army through the heartland of the USA then defeated a larger army at Bladensberg in what became known as the Bladensberg Races for the manner in which the American army ran away. They then took Washington and all the government buildings including the Whitehouse in which they sat down and ate the meal that had been prepared for the US President before he too had to run away. Having filled their bellies they burned the Whitehouse and other government buildings in retribution for the American destruction of private property in Canada.

The British remained the number one power in the world until bled dry by two world wars with Germany, nothing to do with the war in the American colonies more than 150 years previously.

You forgot to mention that the USA beat the British at the battle of New Orleans after they sailed up the Potomac and burnt the White House down.

There were many other battles in the War of 1812, some won by the British and some by the Americans. My point is to say the British left after the revolutionary war a defeated power that never amounted to anything again is utter tripe.

Btw, the British Army defeated at New Orleans was not the same one that was victorious at Washington.

Incorrect.

Him calling the natives 'Indians' might give you a clue to where he thought he was.

Yes, it is indeed a clue, but not for me, for you. He thought he was in The Indies.

Which then described Asia.

Actually they controlled pretty much the entire planet including India, China, Africa, Australia and the middle east and north america. I doubt they lost sleep over loosing the thirteen colonies? Edited by devaram
