The fact that CNN actually asks this question - and they tend to reserve such a question only for situations that appear to most in the world as clearly calamitous - means it's pretty obvious to most that the Pheu Thai " administration " is not in control. In fact, far from it. Like Yingluck, though, Niwatthamrong isn't too anxious about providing any details. No, for Pheu Thai - nonsense is best delivered with a straight face. Of course, it all depends on your definition of control. Pheu Thai has had to move the bar rather considerably. Their current definition of control is - there definitely is going to be an election. In other words, for Pheu Thai, control is actually something that happens in the future. Of course, the obvious follow-up to that is - how do you get there - is left conspicuously unanswered. But in terms of inspiring investor confidence it's a waste of space. Investors don't hinge their estimations on how confident someone is, no matter how many smiles he flashes. No, investors actually look to more substantial indicators. They have, and that's why are receding from investment.

Investment might have slowed but that is as a consequence of the ongoing turmoil caused by the insurrectionists rather than any lack of confidence in the govt. Thailand is still viewed as a good place in which to invest and will continue to be so in the future, despite the efforts of the street thugs/hooligans to destroy the economy.

A relatively minor correction on the SET and a marginal weakening of the currency..nothing like the scaremongering predictions of many of your cronies on this site.

So you'd be willing to lend 2.2 trillion baht to a political group who have no real plan, spout some vague ideas and want to spend it as they see fit without any accountability or checks would you? To a political group headed by a convicted fugitive fraudster?

Ah but wait, the Shin family fortune has increased 450% whilst the Yingluck administration was in office. So perhaps they can work the same financial magic for Thailand as they do for their "own" money?

Viewed as a good place to invest - are you Nick from Barings?

The funniest thing about the 2.2trn infrastructure borrowing bill was that PT's legal experts' only defence in the Constitutional Court was that money borrowed by the government cannot be considered the government's money and therefore was not subject to the constitutional requirement that government expenditure allocations must be approved by Parliament through the annual budget acts. The argument was as if lenders would donating the money to build Thai infrastructure and would never ask for interest or principle repayment.

Now we keep getting self-serving statements in the press from these same PT legal experts.

A necessary statement to calm the financial market and to try and protect the tourism sector.

Criticize all you want, but this is what the government has to say and it would be expected from whomever was in office.

and anyone can say there will be an election in the future..obviously...another mensa candidate different faces same bs..

There WILL be an election in the future.

It's whether the long suffering majority of the Country are allowed to vote by the complicit EC whether a coup takes place and the appointed ones have to be overthrown forcibly.

Sanctions and isolation await as anybody who reads real papers, real Ambassador reports and can understand the that the diplomatic language used againts the Coup is exceptionally strong.

There will be an election though and Sutheps rump mob can never hope to prevail. Whatever TV fan club think.!

HAHAHAHAHA...sorry, I had to laugh when I saw this one. He looks so calm and happy on TV. "we are still in control. We just let them occupy our buildings, dismantle the economy, and dictate policy to throw them off guard."...LOL

Very shrewd move as they are presenting themselves (quite rightly) as the victims of an elitist led Coup attempt.

Only one mob showing up on our screens every day, only one side pushing for NO elections, and only one side being allowed to occupy buildings and avoid arrest by the army and Courts.

Strange you should laugh so loud at something you clearly don't understand

Even the PDRC wants elections, but not before reforms have been made. Reforms for which they want to seek broader input from all over Thailand, every social clasl, etc. The framework they are preparing needs to be filled in and the PDRC doesn't want to fill in too much without co-operation.

BTW 'Suthep rump mob'. Things must be going really bad for the Pheu Thai / UDD lot when it's necessary to put such insults in a post.

'elitist coup attempt'? Must have missed that.

BTW in your words two 'mobs' turn up on TV nowadays. I see Jatuporn, Nattawut and Ms. Thida almost daily also now.

Posters trying to made a bad situation good here. Must be hard and painful to see CNN interview the legit government. Really need to bite the bullet and face the fact that the caretaker government is legit and the caretaker prime minister is also legit and within the law of the constitution. By the way, Suterp's appointed PM is illegal and unlikely to happen.

Exactly how much control does a Caretaker government have? Sorry but they haven't been in control since they tried to pass the amnesty bill. I know it's in the nature of politicians to lie, but getting caught over and over, and now on trial and possibly conviction in the near future, you'd think they have to common sense to admit some failures and be done with it, rather than deny everything and burn down (discredit) every institution against them. Sure you can buy the votes, lie and trick people into voting for you, but aren't we all sick of it?

This 'acting' caretaker PM: 'has earned the trust of Thaksin Shinawatra' (a prerequisite to head one of Thaksin's puppet governments)

'was brought into politics to help neophyte Yingluck in 2011 as part of a team that crafted her public image'

'served as a minister in her office, in charge of public relations and the media. Considered a safe pair of hands, he was later given the commerce portfolio to manage the fallout of a rice price guarantee scheme that incurred massive losses' (given the job of covering up he corruption)

http://www.voanews.com/content/thailands-new-pm-seen-capable-of-compromises-not-miracles/1909538.html

'A close business associate of Thaksin Shinawatra, he served as the Chairman of the Executive Committee-Media and Advertising front of Shin Corporation since 1995 and as Vice Chairman since 2000'

'He served as director of the controversial rice pledging scheme, where rice was bought at inflated prices from farmers and subsequently was left to rot due to lack of buyers.' (he was 'hands on' director of one of the most corrupt schemes in Thai history. How corrupt is he?)

'On 30 June 2013 he was appointed Minster of Commerce and a deputy prime minister in the cabinet of Yingluck Shinawatra'

'On 7 May 2014 he became acting Prime Minister following the removal of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and several members of her cabinet from office' (the PM must be a MP to become PM and Khun N. was never a MP, therefore, illegitimate)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niwatthamrong_Boonsongpaisan

This is the man who represents the Thai government? Bring back Yingluck; at least she didn't actively participate in the corruption. Having Khun Niwatthamrong represent Thailand as 'acting' caretaker PM is disgraceful and an insult to all Thai people. CNN should bone up on Thai law, culture, and backgrounds so they can give balanced news coverage. Who am I kidding, CNN is a political organization masquerading as a news organization.

So let's say a new election is called for August. What is suthep going to do given his protest numbers are decreasing all the time? Another protest?

Sutep is going to be arrested and silenced

Thailand real problems are about to float to the surface

All foreigners need to be careful,

there is a reason they are clamping down on travel by certain visa runners

I think the sharks are circling all of thailand now
