Suddenly, the group attacked him and forced him to delete the footage. Tomchan did what he was told, but the taxi drivers said he was too slow and took the tape from his camera by force and continued to beat him. Popular Post Robby nz
So two stories there really. Another lot who haven't been paid as promised to join the reds. And they were peed off enough to attack the reporter because didn't want their photos to be broadcast. I suppose it could be injurious to the health to have yourself on TV complaining about the reds. Still the taxi drivers could have made it clear that they wanted to stay anonymous which would have avoided trouble.
Popular Post TVGerry
But but.....red shirts love the Shinwatras and democracy! They don't get paid for protesting! And they're all peaceful and believe in a free press and would never attack a reporter ot anyone for that matter! Haha

ShannonT
According to the article, the taxi drivers asked to meet him in the morning for him to film them ...yet he went at 2:45am and got beat up because he filmed? Me thinks we are not hearing the full story here. And why is he lifting his shirt? I see no injuries. Showing off his six-pack perhaps? I would rather get attacked by those "red shirt taxi drivers" at 2:45am where afterwards you cant even see a single bruise, than be stabbed with a knife or beaten into a coma by the PDRC guards. The complaint that Nostitz has made to the NHRC was about an attempted abduction by PDRC guards, not a beating.

Not really, my point was about alleged assaults [and the german guy claimed he was beaten I seem to recall] yet no sign of assault. toybits
Perhaps those who beat up the reporter were afraid of being discovered as not really Red Shirts? Who really knows. Difficult to make assumptions... but some people are quick to pin the blame on the Red Shirts... As usual - Guilty until proven innocent.

I agree, these are just paid for mob, they are not really red shirts. After all the reports on paid for mobs and not getting money i doubt there are many true redshirts and certainly not a majority. They all probably get money to vote too, I mean if you get paid to protest.. its not such a leap to assume they are also paid to vote red. Sound also logical, because people without anything to gain and of sound mind could never support this government. That does make me wonder about the farang red supporters hmmmm

mikemac
Thaksin "bought" the Bangkok taxi drivers' souls years ago, knowing it would be good to have them in his pocket. Bought them with the government's money, the people of Thailand's money. The best thing about this whole red shirt wearing business is it had made so much easier to identify the scumbags. And I bet it makes the poor old rice farmer feel better, knowing he was not the only one to be ripped off by the Shin regime.
webfact
Redshirts Attack Channel 7 Reporter 'Due To Misunderstanding'By Khaosod EnglishChannel 7 television reporter, Thomchan Boonsaiya, talking to police after being assaulted by Redshirt taxi drivers the previous night.BANGKOK — A reporter for Channel 7 said the group of Redshirt taxi drivers who attacked him yesterday have apologised for their actions. The Channel 7 television reporter, Thomchan Boonsaiya, 49, said he was attacked by a group of pro-government taxi drivers yesterday after they called him to report on their story.According to Mr. Thomchan, the taxi drivers claimed they had been hired to attend the Redshirt rally in western Bangkok, but were never paid for attending. Mr. Thomchan said he agreed to meet with the taxi drivers and cover their story in front of the Thammasala Police Station on 14 May.But when Mr. Thomchan arrived at the police station around 2:00 a.m. with his TV camera, the Redshirts waiting for him attacked him physically and forced him to delete footage on his camera. .According to police, the Redshirts ceased their assault on Mr. Thomchan when a woman from their group shouted that they should not harm the media. The demonstrators were not armed at the time, police said.Mr. Thomchan said he spoke with the Redshirts who attacked him in a meeting mediated by police today.Mr. Thomchan said the leader of the taxi drivers' group apologised to him, and explained that he thought Mr. Thomchan was a reporter from an anti-government press agency looking to discredit the Redshirts. When the leader shouted and moved aggressively toward Mr. Thomchan on the night of the attack, the other taxi drivers followed suit without knowing the situation, Mr. Thomchan told Khaosod English."They said we are sorry, we were too impatient, and we accept that we were at fault," Mr. Thomchan said. "I told them they should at least ask or talk to me first before they attack me."The Channel 7 reporter added that he would not press charges now that he and the Redshirts have reached an understanding.Source: http://en.khaosod.co.th/detail.php?newsid=1400145456 -- Khaosod English 2014-05-
