Hi. I've decided to get an O-A retirement visa for now. My question is during the 2 years that one receives before changing to a regular retirement visa, can one come and go as he wishes to neighboring countries? I'd like to travel through out S.E.A. Another thing is I'll be returning to the states during this 1st year for a week or two set up my pension with my union. Is this alright?

You are probably saying get a multiple entry tourist visa first and when I'm there in Thailand for good then apply for retirement visa?

I'd prefer to get this out of the way so I don't have to do border runs and stuff! if you know what I mean.

thank you

The non-oa visa will be issued as a multiple entry visa valid for one year that gives you a one year permit to stay every time you enter the country.

You can leave and re-enter as many times as you want to and stay out of the country for as long as you want.

Then you should do an entry just before the visa expires and get a new entry which will give you the final year.

After the visa expires you will need to apply for a re-entry permit to keep that last one year permit to stay valid, You can get a single re-entry permit that costs 1000 baht or a multiple that costs 3800 baht.

Are you married? If yes the OA visa is not a good choice for you unless she can also get a OA visa.

UJ.. About the O-A retirement. When you say "visa expires" that is the "Enter By" block on the visa?
