UDD to step up demonstration during May 17-19

BANGKOK: -- The United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) will step up its rally at Utthayan road during May 17-19 to coincide with the planned mass demonstration by the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC).

UDD chairman Jatuporn Promphan said Thursday that the political situation was approaching the breaking point pretty soon as the three-day period would be an important battle.

He likened the current situation to that of May 2010 when Bangkok was transformed into a war zone pitting red-shirt followers against security forces and the situation in front of the Rajmangala stadium late last year when red-shirt followers clashed with Ramkhamhaeng University students.

Besides Jatuporn’s hard talking, the rally at Utthayan road on Thursday remains peaceful with entertainment activities being held on the protest stage alternating with the making of hard-hitting speeches by red-shirt leaders.

He's pretty much right it's reaching breaking point!

I feel that the festive atmosphere will soon deteriorate when the fiery speeches start.

Nobody wants a return to 2010 so it's time for the PM the leader of the democrats both come out a make bipartisan statement calling for calm.

Unfortunately suteps actions in derailing any for of talks to break the deadlock is only going to inflame the situation and the way he is allowed to roam free causing rising tension should brought to a halt right now.

The EC isn't helping by flip flopping around an election date. The media is helping by the sensational headlines and it's reporting of sutep having close ties with the new speaker.

If it's true that sutep has now no legal basis then he should be made redundant and removed from the scene.

Then of course if he fails the mad monk says he's got his own plans and who knows what he's got install.

Whatever they are it's not going to be pretty!

This man is a dangerous coward. Calls for violence and battles and then disappears when it kicks off.

Red shirts numbers is ultra small compared to the multi millions under the command of our supreme leader Suthep.

Red shirt numbers will stay small as long as the hope for a peaceful election exists. As soon as that hope disappears the Red numbers will rocket up and people will be reminded that there are far more Reds than Yellows (or whatever colour Sutheps thugs are today).

no one likes them they dont care.......................seems you like thugs of any colour!!

I find it quite amazing that you can read a story about Jatuporn inciting his crowd to ready themselves to engage in a "battle", and then spin it so much that you can infer that Suthep is inflaming the situation. Any non-partisan poster on here can immediately see who is inflaming the situation...!!

Thought you'd be used to his brainwashed nonsensical garble by now!!! Just ignore him and laugh!!

Just like they did back in 2010!

Yep that's what he said.

They have test fired the grenade launchers and M16;s and are ready to go.

Yet another breach of bail conditions.

They luckily are not very proficient with their use of thumpers. My guess is lack of ammo to practice with. Also it is difficult to practice fire and be subtle around your neighbors, even in rural northern Thailand.

sure when Thaksin increases the salary from 500 Baht per day to 2000 Baht per day he'll get a huge amount of people.

If you invest in a TV, this investment really pays off, as Suthep explained it a 1000 times. Short version is: He doesn't trust any party including the Democrats to do any meaningful reforms (and I think he knows how little was done when they were in government)

Just like they did back in 2010!

I doubt Prayut makes the same mistake twice and let them dig in.

Did Suthep himself promote any meaningful reforms while he was part of the government?

What qualifies him to make judgements on who's to have a say in reforms and who wouldn't?

The only way for the Red crowd to increase is to get more "Rent a Crowd"....no other reason !!

Sounds like the notorious Khun_T has put his hands in his wallet, then.

Yes...................and thats Thailands future ............... a dictatorship based on fear, false unfulfillable promises and bribery where a few are thrown peanuts after Shinawatras filled his belly from the trough!! political opponents are killed off cloaked by fake drug wars and people of other religions and views are herded into trucks and murdered like Tak Bai!!!

What a future Juthaporn is blowing all this hot air for.............or is it just to fill his fat bank account while real people like the rice farmers starve!!

What a strange view you have. Thaksin, his sister, they were actually voted in so that would equal democracy. Suthep is hell bent (rightly or wrongly) in over-throwing an elected government, he's the person who wants to install his own unelected people's council, he has taken away people's basic right to vote. His thug "guards" are stabbing seemingly innocent people for no reason and intimidating the public. Tell me again which one is dictator material?

Just out of interest, on what do you base your belief that Jatuporn "Calls for violence and battles and then disappears when it kicks off"?
