did anyone go to Malaysia and back via Sadao checkpoint after new immigration rules? need to know how the officers are strict now.

Me too, I shall plan to visit the checkpoint nest month (June). Last March, the Thai officers are quite ok & the Malaysian side is still ok in despite asking some strange questions like "please tell me the passport number in your memory" so he can compare...

I was in Betong two days ago and they said the Betong-Haad Yai run through Malaysia was still not running, so you have to do the crazy roller coaster ride ride though Bannang Sata, etc.

What a ride: it's one of the most up-and-down, hairpin turn roads I have ever driven on, and when there is a short stretch of remotely flat/straight surface, they throw in one of those crazy chicane/checkpoints. Not recommended for anyone prone to carsickness...
