Coming up to my 1st anniversary here and renewal of my 1 year extension of stay based on Marriage and wondering what the renewal requirements are?

I would appreciate a heads up on the documentation requirements from anyone who has renewed theirs recently at the Jomtien office.

After renewal I will also need to get a re-entry permit. Is it just a matter of submitting a TM8 and paying or do I need other docs for that too?

Thanks for the replies! I posted in Pattaya as I wanted responses from those using the Jomtien immigration office for any specifics.

It will be the same as your first extension. The only difference will be that there should not be a home visit.

You will still get the 30 day under consideration stamp.

Hi all,

Just thought I would update anyone interested with what I experienced today at Chonburi Immigration Office, Jomtien regarding queries I had on my 1 Year Visa Extension renewal. I have got nothing but admiration for the overworked and probably underpaid Ommigration police on the desks there. It's not an easy job and many give them a pretty hard time. wai2.gif

I went in with a number of questions regarding renewal of my "12 month Extension of Stay based on marriage".

Just to be on the safe side I asked one of the guys on the information counter where they answer some questions and issue you a queue number and then to be "surer" (yes, I know you can NEVER be sure here) I asked the Immigration Officer at the Desk who happened to be the same lady I was originally "processed" by last year. We wife came with me and also discussed some of the points. This probably made some of it easier as it is obvious we're still together as far as proof of relationship is concerned..

The questions with answers below each follows:

1. It is easier for me to use a Fixed Term Deposit account to justify my financials (having B400,000 in a Bank account) than having to trek to the AUS Embassy in Bangkok to get the Affidavit of Income (B40,000/nth). Is this OK?

Yes. I can use my Fixed Deposit Account book as long as it is updated and accompanied by a letter confirming the Account from the Bank (any branch) done within a week of renewing.

2. I was married in Australia. Do I need to bring my Australian Marriage certificate?

No.

3. We had our Australian Marriage Certificate translated and certified/registered on the Registry at Nongprue municipal office when I made my first Extension application. Do I need a fresh one?

No, bring the previous certified document. It is sufficient.

4. My current Extension expires 6/12/2014 but I wish to go back to AUS for a holiday and plan on being away during the period my extension expires. How can we manage that?

You can apply up to 30 days before the expiry date of the current extension. Do that and at the same time apply for a reentry Permit for your travel, I believe that they will give me the additional 8 days overlap between expiry and my return as a further "visa extension" but not sure exactly how this works.

Finally, I obviously still need to address all of the other requirements. it was only the above which I had queries about and I suggest if you have any of the same questions you are likely, but not guaranteed to get the same answers so it would be wise to check for yourself.

They certainly seem to made made it easier for me/us. clap2.gif

What you normally need to do is have the marriage also registered in Thailand, which is what you appeared to have done.

1. have the foreign marriage certified by your embassy

2 have it translated into Thai

3 have it certified by the Thai consular department

4. have it registered at any amphur and get a khor rhor 22 form.

You do not need a new K.K 22 form every year.

Mario,

yes, the process to have our marriage registered here with the necessary documentation is as you describe.
