What the opportunities visa for being a father of Thai Children ?

Featured Replies

Well, I am from one of EU country ( France )

Here, the Embassy and Consulates, doesn't provide any kinds of visa for being a father of Thai Child. They saids, only if I'm marry.

3 years ago, I'd make a visa Non Imm - O, for 3 months, successfully at Vientiane, just showing the copy of the Birth Certificate ( plus copy ID mother to show well )

So, what about now, did some people also get a Non-O Visa for being a father of Thai Child ( I mean without legitimization of the kid ) but just by showing the Birth Certificate.

Seems, it's up to Embassy/Consulates who want to provides or not, a Non-Imm O visa, based to be a father of Thai Child..

Well, don't know if it's possible to make it often, the Visa Non-O run in Embassy, because as I read, to make a extension needs show 400,000 bahts + legitimization of the child at the Court.

Or what other consulates provides that kind of visa, just with the BC..

Some consulates will profvide, but probably only a single entry non-O visa. Since a few years they have become stricter, and want the child to be legitimised and not just on the birth certificate.

Extensions of stay require that you legitimize the child and:

- show an income of 40,000 a month (can be from abroad)

OR

- show 400,000 baht in a bank account in Thailand in your name.

Recent reports suggests you can still obtain a one year multi non o at Savanakhet Laos with only being named as the father on the birth certificate.

No financial proof required.

I have seen no such report. As far as I know they will not do it unless you are the legal father of the child.

Ok I should have explained myself better,a friend of mine was able to obtain one with only him being named as the father on the birth certificate, perhaps he got lucky or perhaps there was some other inconsistency,as we know this can be the case with consulates and embassy's in the region.

You can get a Non Imm visa from Vientian for being the father of a Thai child

You get a 90 day entry that can be extended for a further 60 days

You need to bring

Passport and copy of info page

recent photo

fill out form

actual birth cert and copy of birth cert. - both sides

actual family book - and copy of GF page and babies page

copy of Thai mothers ID card, both sides - she also must sign it

2000 baht

This is visa I am currently on, so it is still a valid visa option

Okay, I have 56,000 (aboutish) coming in every month (would I just need to show bank transfer records?) am unmarried but have a boy (with my Thai GF) with an American passport (and Thai passport) which took a DNA test from the states to get but I haven't yet had the chance or need to do the Thai part at the amphor (we are just now applying for a fiancee visa for my GF to go to America, which is going to take a while still). I have been in Thailand 7 years and our child is 2 years old.

I was doing the monthly visa run to poi pot until now for the last 7 months thru JackGolf but as of now from what I can find out the only options I have are this. Anyone know if I am correct in this assumption (as of today)?

Lopburi3 you helped me out with another issue about a year ago when I was Bowery99 on this forum (was banned with that name because I marked the constant emails from the forum spam, didn't know that was an offence at the time).

If your name is on your child's birth certificate you can get a 60 day extension at immigration to visit him. You will need the birth certificate and his house book plus copies. Him and his mother should go to immigration with you.

You can also get a single entry non-o visa in Vientiane by showing the same documents that would give you a 90 entry.

You need to legtimize your child and than you can get extensions of stay based on your child as you have an income of over 40,000 baht.

Right now you cna have a 60 day extension based on the birth certificate naming you as the father.

As said above and expect they would also provide tourist visas if nothing else to cover your GF visa wait - that could cover 3 months each time with extension.

Thank You all for your answers! now of course I am confused lol. So I will go to immigration with GF and child in tow and bring all paper works, mentioned.

Do I need my bank records showing transfers (they come from a cousin in the US, it isn't income from working, my point but how to prove that, if needed?.

I am just about to apply for GF's fiancee application, haven't sent it in yet but doing paper work for it right now. Would I need any of that? Will this cost me anything to get an extension?

I live kind of near Chang Watttena anyone know if that is functioning again? Otherwise any suggestions on where the best office to go and do this would be? From what I have read on here the different locations do different services.

To prove outside income would require income letter issued by Embassy. But that is not an option unless you are also willing to get paperwork for recording you as legal father at District Office (which believe is also from Embassy/translated/recorded at MFA first). For now it is visa or visa exempt entry and then can ask immigration for 60 day extension as father (taking GF and child and birth paperwork - would also have US passport as further proof) and that will require TM.7/photo/copies of passport/visa/entry/departure card and 1,900 baht fee. Chiang Watanna is not open yet. Major Hollywood is reported to be much faster than Lat Phao.

Ahh! got you, doh! Thanks again guys :)

So maybe a stupid question, I have been printing out stuff today and ignoring the internet and I look again and there is officially a coup. This wouldn't change anything would it? I mean they should be open and willing to do this still, right?

They will be open and there will be no changes.

Did you look at this topic Immigration services at Cheang Wattana now suspended

You can find info about the locations and other info about the temporary offices.

Thank you, yes found addresses and maps.

So we went to LP immigration today with all forms and copies, The young woman there (once we found where to line up) looked over our paper work and said Mia Dai, you must have your rental agreement with these papers. My GFs home paper is from her hometown in Surin.

I don't still have a copy of my lease because about 2 or 3 years ago we had termites and they ate all of my important papers. We don't ever talk to the landlord anymore because when something goes wrong with the house, she simply refuses to take care of it.....We had an issue with the electricity a while back and she said she wouldn't pay for it. And when we got it fixed for much less than we thought it would be, she still only agreed to pay 50%. We haven't bothered her since and haven't heard from her since either. In any case my lease was only for a year and that was 4 years ago, I don't want to tell her I don't have it anymore as I do want my security deposit back when I leave and this is the first time I ever needed a copy anyway.

So the woman at immigration said well you can get someone (we are going to ask a neighbor who works until 4:30) to write that they know us and can say that we live here in Bangkok. We will just have to get a copy of their house paper and ID. I told her we have bills that I can get copied (but electric and phone are in landlady's name, internet is in ours) and I could come back in an hour with them but she said no. She also said that I wouldn't have to pay overstay if I come in Monday with it as it was only one day (which isn't correct my visa expires tomorrow) so Sunday and Monday are 2 days.

I would go back if we could get it (agreeing and copying) done fast but there aren't even any copy machines around my soi that I know of, so add an 20 minutes or 1/2 hour to our time, Plus traffic between here and there and we might make back to the office by 6pm (they close at 6:30) today...if we are lucky. And if our neighbor agrees to do it.

What does anyone think of this?, it is all so Thai to me after 7 years here but uncomfortable just the same. I had 3 years of overstay a while back, long story of it's own but my former employer and my ignorance and poverty at the time were to blame and it was no fun to worry about. That is behind me and I don't want anymore situations like it to creep back into my life.

  • 1 month later...

Hello again, I have been reading all these threads the last couple of months..... I did get my extension of stay based on my Thai child. That runs out the day after tomorrow and I will be going up to Vientiane to get my non o based on being the father. I am again taking all the same paper work. But there is a small concern for me because I was at the time of my extension doing monthly visa runs (6 or 7 in a row with a 60 day before that and three years of overstay before that, long story but it happened). So up until now, I have had not had a Non O. Think there will be any problem? I was obviously doing what was most affordable at the time but had no reason or want to scam the system. I just needed the money I saved that way and they were allowing it. I was also painfully unaware of the rules about children.

As always thanks in advance.

One last thought I will be coming back into Thailand by bus again, will that matter?

I have NON-O based of children in thailand and I show dna and birth certificate ... but what I realise when I try to get it was that there was different rules in different country I EU .. i have 1 year visa multiple entré. .

Why don't you just get a new one-year extension of stay at your local immigration office?
