Army to "Reconsider" PCAD Wanted List: DSI
By Khaosod English

BANGKOK — The military will deliberate on whether to suspend arrest warrants for anti-government activists, said chief of the Division of Special Investigation.

Tharit Pengdith said he has instructed officials to submit all arrest warrants for leads of the anti-government People's Committee for Absolute Democracy With the King As Head of State (PCAD) to the army tomorrow for "consideration."

"The DSI is willing to proceed with whatever actions [the military] deems appropriate," Mr. Tharit said.

The comment came a day after Mr Tharit attended a meeting with army chief Gen. Prayuth, who declared martial law before dawn on Tuesday with the stated aim of preventing violent clashes between pro- and anti-government protest groups.

Media reports indicate that Gen. Prayuth scolded Mr. Tharit in yesterday’s meeting for the arrest warrants on more than 30 PCAD leaders and activists, who are wanted on insurrection charges and other offences related to their campaign against the government.

Gen. Prayuth allegedly told Mr. Tharit that the mass arrest warrants are a "mess" and are not constructive to the army's effort to find a peaceful solution to the country's crisis. He also reportedly asked Mr. Tharit to cease his duty as the DSI chief.

In an interview today, Mr. Tharit admitted that Gen. Prayuth expressed his wish that the arrest warrants be "delayed."

Mr. Tharit stressed that he was not intent on hunting down the leaders of the opposition, and that he was merely performing his duty as the head of the law enforcement agency.

"If we do not proceed with the arrest warrants, we might be held accountable for negligence of duty," Mr. Tharit said.

Nevertheless, he said he has decided to "suspend" the summons warrant on Senate Speaker Surachai Liangboonlertchai, who was wanted on charges of insurrection for privately meeting with PCAD leader Suthep Thaugsuban at the Parliament earlier this month.

So a one sided amnesty issued by the Army for one side of the political divide? That is going to heal all wounds for sure!

Where did it say anything about Amnesty?

On top of that, you of course don't (want to) remember that the court already decided that the demonstration was peaceful and that in a democracy people have the right to demonstrate?

The warrants for insurrection are stupid and illegal, and they were fabricated by your buddy Chalerm to incite unrest.

" Mr. Tharit stressed that he was not intent on hunting down the leaders of the opposition, and that he was merely performing his duty as the head of the law enforcement agency. "

He has taken his orders from Thaksin.

" Nevertheless, he said he has decided to "suspend" the summons warrant on Senate Speaker Surachai Liangboonlertchai, who was wanted on charges of insurrection for privately meeting with PCAD leader Suthep Thaugsuban at the Parliament earlier this month. "

Good, then he doesn't have to consider charging Surachai with insurrection for privately meeting with business leaders, government agencies, and Niwattumrong as well.

Was that a pink Bentley I saw rushing through the Cambodian border? The driver looked drunk and was wearing a really old and tight police uniform.

Or was this a bad dream?

Surely amongst all that needs to be done, this should not exactly be top of the list considering it takes years for any court case to actually proceed (TS and YS aside that is)

All arrest warrants should be suspended and then amnesty given to all plus large amounts of money to compensate for the inconvenience suffered by all these poor things who have completely cocked up the country over the past few months.

This a typical PTP policy. Propose full amnesty, vote for it @ 4AM and if you're can't make the vote, ask your buddy to vote for you.....

It seem that there are still people here on TV who don't understand what started the demonstrations in Nov and who is responsible for destroying the country

If you don't actually talk to all sides how on earth can you heal any wounds.

Do you notice any of the UDD in the dock for breaking bail conditions (they are still on bail. And supposed to NOT be involved in political rallies)

anybody with half a brain can see that Tharit's instructions relate only to the protests over the last 6 months - nothing else

There have been some really stupid posts on this thread

Tharit is a disgraceful attack dog. So if anyone meets privately with Suthep then that's insurrection?

According to Tharit it is. But, meeting with a convicted criminal fugitive in person and communicating regularly with him is fine. So is openly calling for armed insurrection, rebellion and a separate breakaway kingdom, providing your on the "right' side, of course.

Tharit's "judgement" is as colorful as his interpretations of certain words like "perjury".

Tharit has vied with Chalerm for the most intimidating and outrageous statements on behalf of the now dissolved CAPO. Now, perhaps he'll help Chalerm account for the budget that's been "spent".

It was sarcasm, but never mind.

But it was Suthep who brought the country to it's knees or was it the PTP, or was it all the previous years of various levels of incompetence from whomever was in power.

So will he also be reconsidering the murder charges that suthep and Abhisit have been too busy to show up for?

Somehow I doubt that either of these 2 will ever be charged when they should be sharing a cell with certain red leaders.

Looking more like a coup by the hour with selective laws being applied. No wonder certain people looked so happy when this happened coffee1.gif.pagespeed.ce.Ymlsr09gMJ.gif alt=coffee1.gif width=32 height=24>

Abhisit did show up.

What selective laws make it look like a coup?

The certain people who would be happy with a coup are your red shirt buddies. They have been hoping and fighting (through terrorist attacks) for a coup for the last 6 months. Luckily Gen Prayuth didn't fall for that sneaky red trap....

there were your heros and friends, the pluriassassins convicted torturers of the Yellowish-Black shirts who threw bombs to innocents . Even dogs and cats are aware of that. I see that your boss Suthep, the most corrupt people in Thailand (according to former Dem leader Chuan Leekpai) pays large ammounts of money to people like you to support dictatorship, coups and massacres of innocents (specially women and children who are the favorite target of your hero and boss Suthep)

Time to scratch out the names of PDRC leaders and substitute red shirt leaders. Also time for Tarit to move to an inactive position or at least make him do the proper work of the DSI which is things that the police refuse to investigate like human rights cases and cases involving policemen. Hopefully the investigation on the source of wealth used to buy his resort in Khao Yai will make some progress under martial law.

Nah.

Pursue the warrants against both sides -- old, new and forgotten. Let the democratic institution of the courts decide what is BS, what has evidence instead of hearsay, and nail the slobs on both sides who use the courts as a nightstick to blindside their opponents.

It is the judge's jobs: let them do it. If they show impartiality, it would a long way toward healing the nation. A very long way.

Let the cards play and chips fall where they may.

He's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. But General Prayuth is more than smart enough to have worked out that those responsible for the anarchy over the last few months must be held accountable. Perhaps not immediately. Thais are not going to quickly forgive or forget the antics of Suthep and his cronies/acolytes/lapdogs
