Nong Khai Closed

Featured Replies

The land border at Nong Khai - Laos is closed - only Thai nationals are allowed to enter Thailand and no nationality is permitted to leave at that border, unconfirmed reports for the Savannkhet entry point into Cambodia as well. Any reports on Mae Sai?

Nong Khai is not closed. My girlfriend (Lao) had no problem entering Thailand this afternoon. There was also many other people both farang and Lao entering Thailand.

How curious it is to hear of such different experiences.

Recollections of border crossings are, of course, without any understanding of the differences between various visas and nationalities, so not particularly helpful for the most part.

In the fews days in which the new regime establishes itself, there might be some confusion at the borders, but I suggest that much the most part of the differences are attributable to specific personal circumstances and nationality, most of which haven't anything to do with the change of rule in Thailand.

If anything, the new intensity of inspecting passports has to do with what are commonly called "visa runners." Farang actually are not the important target of the recent crackdown. As I recall, it has to do mainly with Koreans, Laotians, Chinese and Russians taking undue advantage of the "rules" to come to Thailand to work and whatever. Of course, there are farang who have been playing games with immigration, as well.

Of course, a few less Russian whores in Pattaya is probably not a bad idea!
