Howdy,

I'm an American living in Florida, and I have a couple of questions. :)

I plan to go to Thailand for 3 months (strictly for tourism) starting in late July, and I believe that I need an actual multiple entry tourist visa in order to do this (that I need to apply to at the Thai consulate in Miami). Would this be correct?

I know that I need to have an outbound ticket, will they still approve me if I have the return ticket on around the 88th day as I will need to extend the visa after 60 days? Or do I have to show a ticket leaving Thailand within that 60 days?

Since the coup, has there been any information on there being an issue with Thai consulates accepting/approving visa applications?

Is it recommended that I use one of these visa expediting services? If so, which do you recommend?

While I have been to Thailand many times, I have only ever stayed for a month or less, so I have no experience with this whole visa situation.

Thank you so much for any assistance!

If it's nothing more than 90 days that you need, a single entry visa should suffice. It is 60 days and extendable by another 30 days.

2 ways of extending it. 1. Exit the country and reenter 2. Pay 1900 baht and have it done without exiting.

Either way will give you the 30 days extension. 60+30 and you are covered. The return or flight ticket out is not important.

Hi,

Thank you for the information!

From what I've read the problem is that they want an itinerary/ticket information when I apply for the visa.

So I will need to have that outbound ticket when I apply. I'm just wondering if they will care if it is within the 60 days or within the 90 days.

Thank you!

They might ask for one (return) but it does not mean you must have one, though.

You can just tell them that you've read/heard that the most scenic way to experience Thailand is by rail and you might just do that and exit via Laos come the end of your journey.

Alternatively, you can also tell them you will be travelling overland ending North and exit Thailand via Chiang Kong to take the most scenic boat ride to Luang Prabang in Laos.

All they need is a satisfactory answer. :) Positive description of your plans and a smile should get you the visa with ease.

Itinerary and ticket out of Thailand is what immigration might ask to see with a visa-exempt entry, but you will be travelling with a tourist visa this time.

whistling.gif The original post and the first reply contain incorrect information.

Yes you can get a visa at any Thai consulate in the United states.

A single entry tourist visa will get you an entry stamp in your passport when you arrive in Thailand for a stay of 60 days on arrival for that entry stamp.

In the last 30 days of that stay you should go to your local immigration and pay for a 30 day extension to that visa.

That will make your total stay 90 days and the fee for your extension is 1900 Baht.

You do NOT need an outward ticket when you first arrive in Thailand because you have that tourist visa before you get on the plane to Thailand.

The airline will NOT ask to see an onward ticket because you have that visa.

The visa is correctly called a SINGLE ENTRY Tourist visa. The term single entry is the key. It comes with ONE ENTRY to Thailand and ONE EXIT (one entry and one exit pair)

Therefore, you do NOT exit the country and return with that single entry tourist visa, because once you enter the country and exit the country your single entry visa is finished.

Instead, to get that 30 day extension I mentioned, you go to the local immigration office where you are staying in Thailand in the last 30 days of your 60 day entry stamp and pay the 1900 Baht for that 30 day extension.

It's all explained there in it's official title. a SINGLE ENTRY TOURIST VISA.

You should get at a single entry tourist visa.that would give you a 60 entry that can be extended for 30 days at immigration. If you plan any trips out of Thailand you should get a visa with additional entries. You can get one with up to 3 entries allowed.

Many consulates will not ask for a ticket out of the country but if they do one at the 90 day point would be accepted.

You should contact the honorary consulate in Coral Gables to find out what they require. http://thaiconsulatemiami.com/

Oops! My apologies. IMA_FARANG and Ubonjoe are totally correct. I had done the extension at the immigration office for 1900 baht and was also made known that I can exit and reenter which was incorrect. The explanation by IMA_FARANG makes total sense. Learnt something new. Thanks guys and again sorry for the misinformation.

No. A single entry visa allows exactly that, a single entry.

The attempt at a re-entry would get an American a thirty day visa exempt entry (maybe), but it would have nothing to do with him coming back into Thailand using the Tourist Visa. After his initial entry the visa would be dead and finished. His presence in Thailand would be based on a 60 day permission stay granted by Immigrations, extendable at an immigrations office in Thailand only.

Read my postings above, please! I have erred and had clearly stated it before your post. IMA_FARANG and Ubonjoe has made things as clear as day for me.

There is the possibility of wanting to check out Angor Wat during my stay, so I think I'll shoot for a multiple entry visa. Am I correct in assuming that if I have a multi-entry visa the clock gets reset so I get another 60+30 days on arrival?

They are not called multiple entry visas they are issued as 1, 2 or 3 entries only.

If you get a 2 entry visa you could leave an re-enter and get a another 60 day entry. If you got a 3 entry you could do it twice.
