Will be moving to Thailand in September. I have been advised by members on this site to apply for an Ed visa. This is what I will do.

Another question I have is about my Malaysian registered car. When I have visited Thailand previously for a holiday I just get the usual Carnet form which allows me to keep the car in Thailand for a month. I read somewhere you can get an extension for up to six months but not sure how easy that is. Is there any other way of keeping it longer than that without having to import it which would be very expensive. Could I just take it back to Malaysia again for the weekend and start the process again. I suppose they would get wise to this after one extension. Just wondered if anyone had done this before?

I know I will have to sell the car in Malaysia at some point and buy a car in Thailand just wondered.

Thanjs

Visa runs for the car. It would be interesting if you can. I guess the carnet would not insist that the car be returned to Malaysia, just that it leaves Thailand, in which case, you could do a different border each time so that you don't come across the same staff in too short a time.

When you return the carnet when exiting Thailand they input the details into the computer so I figure whichever border you go to the info would be available at every border. Not sure though. I'm only asking as i had to wait 8 months for the pick up and didn't really want to sell it, but if needs must

If you want to keep the car ask Thai Immigration when you apply for your Ed visa, from memory I think you can get a 90 day stay for the car.

IMO if your going to stay in Thailand sell it and buy a car in Thailand.

I will look to sell it, don't really have any other option. I read somewhere it would be possible to get a 6 month extension if you state you are a tourist and want it to drive around Thailand, beyond that I don't think I would have any other option.

Cheers
