July 26, 200619 yr mainly I was in the Segafredo nearby my hotel (downtown georgetown) sorry to pester you, but can you tell me where this is in Georgetown? i need to keep working while i am in Penang so I will need wi-fi. also, what's the easiest way to get to Gurney Plaza from Georgetown? thx Segafredo: Ok best I can do is this: Nearby the City Bayview Hotel, in the top right corner of this map: http://www.hoteltravel.com/malaysia/penang...rgetown_map.htm If you go there, you will see it. [No Google Maps for Malaysia... too bad] Guerney Plaza: Best to get there with a rented motorbike, or taxi. I just rented a bike, a bit more expensive than in Thailand but well worth it. 200 Baht/day as far as I remember. Bikes for rent on Lebuh Chulia - where all kinds of other tourist services are available as well. You can easily find Guerney using any tourist map of Penang. On the way to Guerney I remember there was a Starbucks with free WiFi as well. The road goes by the ocean, and that starbucks was next to a big bookshop in some sort of large building, clearly visible from the road, same side as the ocean. I was in KL recently and found that many Hotels now offer WiFi/Internet in the room, so you might find that in Penang as well. I had to search pretty hard though - the rates for WiFi fluctuated wildly, from free and included with the room to Baht 600 per 24 hours. I ended up paying Bht 300 per day. The main problem is internet companies that sell the internet service to the Hotels and want to charge outrageous rates. I guess they will be around until the Hotels figure out that all it takes is a few WiFi routers/APs and a DSL connection which costs next to nothing... sigh. Edited July 26, 200619 yr by nikster
