June 1, 201412 yr How can I change a tourist visa 60 days in non-immigrant for voluntary work. and can you extend the visa.
June 1, 201412 yr As far as I know immigration do not do a change of visa status for those that can qualify for an extension of stay based upon working as a volunteer. You will have to go to a nearby embassy or nearby consulate to get a non immigrant O visa. You will need documents from the organization you are working with to apply. In order to get an extension of stay (visas are not extended) you will first need a work permit.
June 1, 201412 yr I know of a case in Chiang Mai where the person was send to Bangkok for the conversation based on volunteering, but that is a couple of years ago. I would contact BKK-immigration to see if they are willing to do it. But you will of course need all the paperwork, including work permit application. and I would get a supporting letter from the local provincial governor. In all, might be best to apply for a non-O abroad if far from Bangkok.
