Good location around Pattaya to live

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

just joined this forum and hope to receive plenty of suggestions :)

I am German, engaged to a Thai, currently living in Dubai.

As we will move to Pattaya towards end of October I am wondering in which are we should rent a villa?

It should be not too far away from the Regent school, and it should be a quiet and safe community...any suggestions on this?

Thanks in advance

Somewhere on the dark side, north which will fairly close to the extremely expensive Regent school.

They are also building a lot of villages along highway 36 now so that might be worth checking out. A car is a must if living there which I am sure you are aware of.

the dark sde ,on Sukhumvit ,near cholchan , but dont go to regents its way overpriced and not that good ,Assumption in Sri Racha is far better , and far cheaper .

Hi Yandc,

I now live in Buriram, but for several years lived not far from Regents School. There is a very large lake (reservoir) called Maprachan and there are many villages and individual villas around this lake.

Depending on exactly where you choose, you would be no more than 15 minutes away from Regents. it is a nice area, about 20 minutes outside of Pattaya main city and it is referred to as "The Dark Side." It is away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Pattaya and now has most amenities out there, so no need to go into town for normal everyday stuff.

Pm me if you would like more info

Best location to live is at my house which is 800 meter from the Regents school, as the crow flies, and is by pure coincidence for sale biggrin.png

PM if you like to see some pictures.

School number 5 is for free.

Assumption and Regents are schools that are not comparable with each other.

assumption is also a Christian school, not everybody appreciates this.

Regent is certainly expensive, but looks also very decent.

The main thing is that Regents is a school with an international curriculum. like there are only a few in the wide area, and assumption is definitely not one of those.

I think school number 5 neither biggrin.png

From the other side, the OP didn't say that he has children that gonna study there, maybe he's an English teacher . biggrin.png

Coming back on topic, as others have mentioned already, there are a lot of housing estates in the area, from decent middle class up to high end.

Agreed. I live by the lake in a nice bungalow and it's very quiet, even with the soi dogs wandering around. Rarely go into Pattaya, except for the weekly shopping trip.

One day someone will build a large supermarket on the 'dark side' and that will be heaven.

If you are a teacher at the school, you can have accommodation on their premises.

I would not say the darkside.

Better would be Nong Plalai, Nong Khet Noi or Nong Khet yai.

Close to the Regents School and motorway.

Op - Be careful!!

In Pattaya, 800 metres "as the crow flies" can translate to 15 kilometres of driving, five U-turns, three motorways exits, three sets of traffic lights, and having to reverse 200 metres up the wrong side of the road to get to your destination. biggrin.png

A friend pulled his son out of Regents and sent him to Assumtion where our son went ,as it was a far superior school ,Regents is vastly overpriced and overated ,his words not mine

Why in heaven would anyone chose to live in a place like Pattaya? I am just asking. Sure, the girls and the booze. We all know that, and the STDs are free. But honestly, you have a gf. Why would you not respect her and yourself and move somewhere decent? Unless you found her there.,.. Then you've got more than one problem

I live there so I don't have to meet sanctimonious people like you.

I suggest you spend less time on your horse, but have a nice day anyway. thumbsup.gif

The OP is asking for a 'Good location around Pattaya to live'

Not what do you think of Pattaya and the people who live there, please stay on topic.

Thank you.

Be warned about the potential for Burglaries.

Not every village suffers from this problem but some DEFINITELY DO. We live in Ban Chang and moved into what we thought was a great village (and it truly is a nice village and a beautiful house) but there have been over 12 burglaries in the viallge in the last 6 months and 2 of those also involved attempted rape.

I am not kidding and I assure you the above is absolutely true. Interestingly there is an Australia couple that live in our village and as non Thai speakers they are completely oblivious to the problem (until I told them).

Do beware of this issue and make thorough enquiries about any village.

Wow, thanks a lot for all the good advises. I really appreciate.

@Braddockrd: Well my friend, let me tell you that my future wife is far away from being a prostitute and what we are doing or intend to do in Pattaya area is none of your business! - End of story

To all others: Thanks again. So to summarize, East Pattaya will probably be the place to be or Isaan may be.

Regarding the school we haven't made up our mind yet where we will be sending our two kids to...

First impression of Regent was very good but I have to visit the schools by myself...Yes, comparing to all the other prices it seems to be expensive...but hey, here in Dubai we pay 3x times more :(

Anyway, I hope to get more information from your guys and I am sure I will bother you with a bunch of questions in the next time hahaha

It's in the plan, but I need to check where exactly...so we will rent a villa for the first 6-12 months and then we will decide

Pattaya is a much bigger area than the biggots would have you believe. Beach Rd, 2nd Rd and Walking Street are the only places that some people know in Pattaya and the ones that people tend to remember - mostly due to the activities that can be found there. However, there is much more to Pattaye than that - you can live away from these areas and then visit the " down-town areas " if and when you need to. If I have friends in town then down-town Pattaya is a fun place to go, if I don't, then I stay away, but as far as affordable Asian Cities go, Pattaya has a bit of everything once you get to know your way around. It's not all booze and sleaze, there other good things too !!rolleyes.gif

Thanks mate :) That is exactly the intention. We will be running our business away from Pattaya anyway;...

Amen, I been living in Bangkok, Phuket and now I live here in Pattaya with my family and Pattaya wins hands down in overall comparison.

Good schools to choose from, excellent private hospitals, easy to get to the airport be it Swampy or U-Tapao that is quite good for domestic flights.

Easy to get to Bangkok by either bus or own ride, easy to get to one of the most beautiful islands in Thailand: Koh Chang, 2-3 hours drive and you are at the ferry terminal.

I go out for partying less and less nowadays, at 52 I had enough and will rather have a barbie at home with my family.

Only downside is the traffic which sometimes drives me nuts, he-he.

I been saying above in I don't know how many posts as some people just love to hate Pattaya and they still keep posting here, odd man.

hahaha...traffic can't be worse than here :) As u I am in the age (48) that I don't need to party every weekend anymore...I am settled and I believe that this beautiful country will offer a lot of great things even though they have some political issues going on from time to time...I am really looking forward to finally relocate.

That is the way to do it, no other way makes sense.

There will almost always be some houses for rent in a good village, so drive around for a week or 2 and check for yourself.

When my wife and I moved from Bangkok we rented a small condo on south Pattaya road and we quickly realized that we wanted to stay but not living in a condo long term.

I think we spend a month riding around and checking as many as possible, most we did alone and some we did with real estate agents. In the end we bought an unfinished house very near BKK/Pattaya hospital and we are now on the 2nd house in the same village.
