June 7, 201412 yr At last - civilisation may return to flying (of which I have to do a lot) http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/travelnews/10881437/Legroom-wars-the-device-that-stops-plane-seats-reclining.html Legroom wars: the device that stops plane seats reclining Reclining seats have been an ongoing issue among travellers and the airline industry. Last week, Monarch Airlines became the latest operator to dump reclining seats, joining a small group of airlines which have shunned reclining seats on all or some of their flights, including “no frills” operator Ryanair which has always used a rigid backed design. I have sent off for my set(s) already.
June 9, 201412 yr I can't sit all that time upright on long haul. Of course, the solution is business class. All the same, anyone who tries to use those clamps (in cattle class or otherwise) is spoiling for all sorts of trouble. I'd be surprised if anyone would be stupid enough to buy them, let alone use them. (I suspect it is an old ad - probably dating back to around 1 April.)
June 10, 201412 yr Cathay Pacific fitted seats that were contained within a fixed shell but which would recline within that shell. Everyone started moaning so they ripped them out again. I thought they were excellent. You could set your own seat at whatever angle you liked and it made no difference at all to the people around you. Edited June 10, 201412 yr by sustento
June 11, 201412 yr Author Cathay Pacific fitted seats that were contained within a fixed shell but which would recline within that shell. Everyone started moaning so they ripped them out again. I thought they were excellent. You could set your own seat at whatever angle you liked and it made no difference at all to the people around you. I came across a similar set-up a few years ago - can't remember which airline. Yes, it worked OK. So it can be done and thus should improve public perception of the airline.

June 21, 201412 yr Plane seats should be bunk bed style as the norm, with the option to prop yourself up slightly. Im so pleased with my idea that i gave myself a thumbs up You know, that might actually work and even increase the passenger capacity. But only for long haul. Mind you, the business suits would complain of wrinkles.
June 21, 201412 yr ^ have little hooks inside or outside the bunk beds, then can hang up suit jackets etc.
June 21, 201412 yr ^ have little hooks inside or outside the bunk beds, then can hang up suit jackets etc. Been thinking about it....A combination of seat and bunks. The middle row is bunks and the window seat remain the same. Then I realised, seat belts wouldn't work very well on the bunks. I doubt if it would pass safety standards. Mind you, have seat belts ever saved anyone on a plane except for turbulence?
June 23, 201412 yr I'm not sure how I would react to that HB. I mean if ur riding in cattle and the tool in front of you reclines, the. I tend to recline a bit because else wise I'm all jammed up. If u happened to be behind me (at this point in time) with ur little chippy things on, I'd virtually be a sandwich and I'm gonna come out swinging. I'd probably take your little chicks off you and feed the. to the guy in front of me.....sheish, no wonder Ilash out for Business travel, it's too much pain up the back. (for long haul anyways).
June 23, 201412 yr Author Much of it depends on the airline and the location of your seat. With Saudia, for instance, I can usually get a seat in the Emergency Exit row, thus giving me sufficient leg-room. If I do not get such a seat, or one in the bulkhead row, then I wedge my knees firmly against the back of the seat in front as soon as I board, keep them there for at least the first half-hour of flying. If the person in front tries to recline, the seat will not do so because of my legs. If he looks behind, I show him that there is no room and say sorry. If he then gives up I can slide back a couple of inches and relax. If he continues to try, I keep my legs jammed up against his seat. I nearly always win. It is a battle, I am competitive.
