BANGKOK, June 16 -- Thailand's Office of the Private Education Commission (OPEC), along with a group of vocational students in the country's northern region joined hands in renovating a school in in the area which been wrecked by an earthquake earlier last month.

OPEC secretary-General Bundit Sriputtangul said the agency, together with the Association of Private Technological and Vocational Education Colleges of Thailand, the Northern Region Group, led over 300 vocational students to Huay San Yao Pittaya School of Mae Lao district, Chiang Rai to repair the damage caused by a quake which rocked the area last month.

The team installed new water tanks and an irrigation system in the area, to provide local residents and the school with drinking water, as they have faced water shortages since the last month's tremor damaged the water system there.

In addition the organisations would set up electrical appliance repair service points at the school from June 18-25, to provide further help to local residents needing electrical equipment repairs.

The OPEC secretary also added that nine private schools in the north have been affected by one of the country's strongest earthquakes on record, and his office has already sought a budget of Bt4.6 million from the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) for renovations and repairs, although all of the nine schools have already been reopened. Great! Water, electrical systems and to boot.

What about the re-pointing of walls, and building foundation safety in general?
