Featured Replies

Before you light a Chinese lantern think ! Where do they land ? Set fire to this horse's rug ! Not only horses but cattle etc. ,,, buy a balloon or light a candle !

So how and where did the horse in the photo get burned?

Edited by thailiketoo

Why did it come down still alight? They are at peak altitude when the flame goes out.

Why didn't the horse avoid it? Horses usually run away from burning objects.

Sounds unlikely!

I've never seen a blanket on a horse outside at night in Thailand. Have you?

Most floating candles I've seen usually are let loose on a beach and float out over the water.

Not sure when the flame extinguishes but I've never actually seen one come down while still lit.
But I could see how they could definitely be a fire hazard during the dry season when some errant air current brings them over a farmers field.

and the horse got a blanket so it doesn't freeze (in Thailand) very unlikely.

Maybe it was lit. in Thailand and released, it circumnavigated the globe before landing in New Zealand the following winter. You see, clearly you haven't thought this out too well :P

I would suspect this story is probably from the West, someone copying the Chinese lantern.

Although as stated, how it came down still alight is another question given the altitudes they reach.

If the article can be substantiated with an actual news article or similar then it can remain, if not I will close this thread as NOT Thai related.
