i would like to get some input from you guys about the above mentioned topic.i am not talking about the relationship from some westerners with a Thai girl i'm talking about the Thai to Thai relations.quiet a few of my collegues are married but living several 100 km away from each other and every few month they are going to see each other for some days.for me that seems weird.why should i be married and see my spouse maybe 15-20 days a year what is the reason for it?and i think the labour market can't be the reason due there is much more demand than supply for well"experianced " staff.i am talking about ppl like financial controlers, operation managers and executive secretary.

what is the purpose to be married if you don't live together?

for me i love to come home after a long working day and spend some quality time with my wife.

what are your thoughts?

i do know a couple of case, and so far i can say its true love... i mean the thai girl is really faithfull to her thai bf,

and will spend hours on the phone talking about flower and blue skies.

ps: if you are talking about long distance relationship between thai and foreigner, so its time for you to set up a western union account

Most Thai men have at least two wives/gfs.

And the ladies prob know about each other too and do not mind as long as the bhat keeps coming back to each of them

It is quite common here. I know many friends that have this kind of situation. Most though are only for a few years. For example my neighbors are older in their late 50's husband is retired and kids graduated from college and are married.ot tr The wife is in local government and got transferred to a different province with a promotion. She could have turned it down but it is only for 3 years and when she is done she will retire with an extra 10k baht a month for life. Her husband has to stay in CM because his mother is dying and he takes care of her.

They make it work.

I have a never set of friends where the wife has a great job in CM and the husband has a family business in BKK. They have 2 lovely children and make it work. Though they do complain and feel lonely, they know that their sacrifices now will pay off in the future.

Some people need different things so I tend not to judge.

Just ask them. It's normal for a man to take another younger wife when his first wife is around forty and/or they've already had children. Provided he can afford the extra expense of course!

I work with a global customer base, and I see this often in southeast Asia. Many guys live far from their families and send money home. They and their wives do what they must do to survive. All the ones I know through work are perfectly in love and faithful. I actually admire it.

Now, mix a westerner into the recipe, and everything changes.....

Perhaps English men are taking up Thai men's habits,I know an English man who has a Thai wife and Gik! the English fellow has no intention of choosing between them.

It's also a situation for many executives of Asian global companies who have regional offices. The one I work, our CEO is appointed for a 3 year period from Japan. He goes home once a year for 2 weeks (and from what I hear, goes to the office half of the days he's back). His wife / family are not permitted to live in the country his working in. Every 3 years they up and move him to another country and a new CEO comes in.

It's rather strange, he hasn't lived in Japan in over 10 years, who knows how the wife or family feels about it, you couldn't imagine it's positive unless they were very understanding and were really looking at the financial benefits come retirement time.

It's very normal and the girls are ok with it as long as it's not flaunted in their face and the money doesn't stop flowing. You can have as many wives as you want. Best to keep some distance between them though.
