I have a lazy Bt 5,000 sitting idle in a Bank Account.

But you know that this style Auctions are useless without an attached Media ... whistling.gif

New offer, Sir

David's 5,000 AND my wife as part exchange.

Don't need photo...... I trust your taste.

And don't believe David, he even allows Miss Farm Girl to read his posts on TVF.

She must be a very nice Lady........... still being with him.

Well Costas ... we have an understanding.

She has a rusty fish filleting knife ... and I understand that!

I've been trying to rotate this in the YouTube Editor ... but it hasn't happened.

I'll leave it up for a few days for some fun.

Unfortunately these attitudes have extended from what were common happenings in the past and perhaps is still common practice today.

Farangs would allege that they are fiancés or boyfriends of young attractive Thai women in order to take them abroad for illegitimate purposes, sometimes the Thai women were aware and in with the scam or unaware of what they maybe getting involved with. And this has stuck in the minds of many Thais and Western foreign offices as believing the same is now still prevalent regarding the reasons farangs take young attractive Thai women back to their countries and what is probably behind the way of thinking of the said monk and the aunt. I know that this practice is going on today with Thai women using so-called Australian fiancés to assist them with obtaining visas to visit Australia, sometimes of ED visas and then becoming sex workers in the sex establishments of New South Wales. I know this for a fact because a Thai cousin of my wife done this exactly 3 years ago and she has been the talk of the family ever since.

I can remember gong back many years there were articles published in Thai newspapers and magazines warning young Thai women not to become involved and travel abroad with farangs and giving a few alleged horror stories as examples. I cannot blame the monk and aunt for having concerns and it means that the OP is going to have to prove that his intentions towards his girlfriend are honourable, which I guess is not going to be an easy task.

The OP says that he has some business in the US, and wonder what sort of business that is? Because the aunt is probably wondering the same and also what does the OP actually do in Thailand? And as I said; I can fully understand the attitudes of the monk and the aunt.

.

Well, with four retirement extensions in my passport, and four years with the GF, I sure am a patient human trafficker, huh?

Please read my first post again.

I am not implying that you are a human trafficker, only saying due to events that have happened in the past and still happening today, than I can understand why foreigners wanting to take Thai girlfriends back to the foreigners home countries, even just for a short period, will fall under suspicion and this is by no fault on your part, but caused by the illegal activities and malpractices of others.

Otherwise in what other way would you like me to explain this?

David48 has his hands full with twins, so he would have little time to support

a newly purchased wife, no matter what her physical charms are.

If monks could see the future they would all be rich.....I personally would go see

this monk and explain the error of his ways....

Mate, I can put your mind at rest. Here's your solution. Take the missus along to the wat, get her to give the monk one of her massages, and you will have a happy ending.

Tell you what, I'll take the 5K as a "first refusal" deposit.

Here's a pic:

Confusion set in when you said you'd got the old cow a visa . . .

Putting all the jokes aside, you are in serious trouble.

Thai do believe monks and doctors as if they were Gods and could never be wrong.

Sooner rather than later, even your GF would be convinced it is so, because monk said so and you will have fights even before you fly to US.

My only suggestion is to go see a higher, more senior monk and get his advise or blessing,

I must say though, i am little puzzled that the Aunt wen to monk who predicted the future, because monks do not do that.

If i had to guess it was one of those fortune tellers, who sit in front of a dozen of Buddhas, preach Buddhism and predict the future, while drinking a case of beer in the evening

I have one of those right next to me, they do not work, sit around all day scamming people and daily rubbish is a case of large Changs.

This, in my opinion, is true and doesn't bode well if your other half is a devout believer.

Interesting, but having read your post of a few days ago about your "crazy wife", my GF fixes my meals, calls me twice a day, cooks for me, mops the floor, bathes my dogs, and massages me every evening already.

And, I didn't have to buy her a house. biggrin.png '

Next.

Buy her a house ...... yet!

Sorry to correct you on this, but many religious and semi religious Thais do go to monks for what my wife describes as her life circle, predictions and so-called premonitions of what may happen in the foreseeable future and many Thais take this very seriously, something similar to the warnings of a witch doctor in Africa.

Back when my Thai wife and I lived in the States, before the days of the Internet, my wife had a subscription thing going with a monk in Bangkok. She would send him her details and the monk wrote back with a graph shaped like a circle which forecast his premonitions of things to come, good and bad in the following few months.

As I said; this is going to be a toughy for the OP and not sure how he is going to convince his girlfriend to go with him abroad as he is really up against the odds with this one.

Perhaps it could be a case of saying to the aunt; how much? To gain her approval and convince her niece to go.

Sorry to correct you, but monks DO NOT do predictions, they do blessings and approvals, they do not offer lottery numbers nor your future husbands or wife's.

I do not have a wife who goes to temple, i myself go to temple on weekly basis.

There are however fake monks or i should say scammers who dress in monk attire and sit in front of a shrine of Buddha, usually around temples but not exclusively and those are the same people who drink on daily basis even though real monks are not allowed to drink.

"No."

"Okay, see you later."

I have taken two Thai girls out of this country. Married both of them, at different times to be sure. Both girls had their families tell them to be careful, I might sell them. Both girls families knew me well and yet both suffered a lot of anxiety over this. I was told its a common cause of concern by older Thai relatives. I guess in the old days this happened occasionally.

There was a popular Thai film about this back in the 1980s - Thai girls being duped into a relationship and then sold abroad in Europe. Can't remember the name, but it's obviously stuck in their consciousness.

Finding Buddhist monks acting as what you describe as fortune tellers is not at all unusual in Thailand. For example as in the case of the OP`s girlfriend`s aunt.

I have lived in Thailand for over 30 years and have come across such real monks on my travels.

It is not classified as fortune telling in the real sense, such as crystal balls, cards, predicting lottery numbers or for finding someone their ideal partner, or predicting how long a person is going to live, but more as premonitions and what could be considered as simple wise advice.

Real monks in temples do not offer this "service" self proclaimed monks do.

Monks can bless and approve, but they do not offer premonitions.

Ever seen a monk in a temple sitting around chatting to people?

Oh yes they do.

They do when pressed... I mean how on earth are the going to get rid of the fat old bird worrying about her niece being sold into slavery?

Ever seen a monk in a temple sitting around chatting to people?

Frequently, very frequently. And they give out 'lucky' numbers too.

You need to get out more broaden your temple visit schedule.

You need to actually visit a temple before posting rubbish

I simply assumed that you haven't paid much attention when you are INSIDE the temple.

You quite rudely and wrongly assume that I have never actually been anywhere near one.

That's fine. But by the same token that the unfortunate OP's girlfriend's auntie has solicited advice from a monk, Thai womenfolk, by dint of their being forbidden to take on a saffron robe, are religiously seeking advice from the monks on all sorts of stuff from how to get rid of spots or how to stop the husband coming home late at night or what colour should the new car be to... asking for a bloody lucky number.

Saying real monks don't do this is like saying real Thai police don't accept money.

Honestly, I don't know what's worse; self-proclaimed monks or self-proclaimed experts.

If it makes any difference I have witnessed what you describe - and I was astounded.

I've also witnessed fortune telling in temples and I was equally astounded. There's really nothing you could tell me now about the workings of a Thai temple that would astound me anymore, what with the regular round-up of pedophile monks and the bling-bling helicopter monk that's on the run, among far to many others.

Narrow minded people cling on to their experience grimly - and anything outside of "their experience" has to be derided as "rubbish." It's really quite embarrassing - but they can't see it. They just go muttering away into the corner about how we are all "fools" for not just bowing down to their superior knowledge and intellect.

We would be fools if we did.

Lots of great comments.

To those who suggested I pay a visit to the monk:

I would, but his name is Khee, and my Thai pronunciation for the word "monk" is often misunderstood, and I feel uncomfortable going to the wat and asking for Monk Khee.

For those of you concerned my GF is now leery of traveling with me:

Don't worry, nothing could be further from the truth. She is intelligent, does not believe in such nonsense, and trusts me implicitly.

All great and desirable qualities, yes?

Good. Price just went up.
